How much is my prop worth?

I'm pretty sure I'm not propped right. My boat came out of Texas and I'm at elevation in Utah. When I have some sacs filled I can't get the boat over 8mph. My top speed is at least 45mph+. I am going to go automated ballast and need to address the prop issue. Can you tell if this is the right prop for my 22ve at altitude? Also, how much could I sell it for? It's in perfect condition.

Can't tell fully from the picture but that looks like you have a Acme 537, A 1235 is a safe choice for an upgrade but I would call Acme and talk to one of their sales reps. Tell them your make model and year, engine HP, the weight you are running, altitude you boat at and they will tell you exactly what you should be running.

As far as what it is worth that depends, there are a lot of 537's out there if that is what it is. I would recommend keeping it for a spare get yourself out of a bind prop.

So I have a way different boat - 1995 2002 FSLM - but I just bought it out of CA - so a similar situation and I'm probably just up the road from you in Draper. I suggest talking to the guys at Acme - I gave them my boat model, loads, elevation, speed and RPMs at WOT, and what I use it for and they suggested a prop. Bought it through Discount Inboard Marine - just got it last week and went out to Utah Lake on Friday evening....much better performance over what I had, and I got into the right RPM range. Discount Inboard has a program where if you aren't happy with the prop, they will exchange it - provided you don't damage it.

My new Z3 came with the 537 and works at surfing speeds with my upgraded ballast, I have the 1235 that I plan to install soon.
I saw some used 537 props going for 250 to 350 on line

I would be willing to bet that you saw used 537 props with a listed price of 250-350. They are pretty well a dime a dozen and with the explosion in surfing, the 537 is not so much of a desireable prop for the reasons that the OP has noticed. I would be willing to bet that you can buy one for a lot less. Although I am surprised that you couldn't get going fast enough to surf with it.

I have a 537 for my spare, but that is only for use if I hit a rock on my first day out at Lake Powell on a week long trip.

And 45 MPH seems too fast. Your boat is a tractor, not a race car. Assuming you have the 5.7.

My z3 had the 537 stock and I was unable to go over 10mph with the bigger ballast installed. I also had a tops speed of around 45-48mph with that prop. I switched to the 1235 and it is night and day difference. Top speed now is around 40mph but I don't like revving it out. As Talli mentioned our boats are tractors !

I have a 24VE and also here in utah. It came with the ACME 537 and ran fine until I put it under load with the ballasts. Two years ago I upgraded to the 1235 and it made a huge difference! I kept my 537 as a spare because when I looked into selling it the average prices were only about $150-$200. I will say that making the switch is a super easy upgrade that you will not regret

My buddy has the 537 on his Ve that only runs at 6500ft (Tahoe). It's a dog. It sucks out of the hole and it might get to 34mph when empty.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Great point guys. For that price, not worth losing a trip at mead or Powell over $150 bucks. As I will be dropping a mint on this ballast system every dollar counts. Hopefully I can find the right prop used. Hopefully not wishful thinking.

There are some 1235 props used out there. I have it on my boat and am pretty pleased. Acme invented some other versions of it that are supposed to have a little more pull, but I haven't though it worth the $600 that they want these days for new props.

Thanks for the input. Found a 1235 for a good deal and ordered tonight. I will definitely keep the 537 as my spare. Can I use a big c clamp or do I need to pop on a prop puller?

Nvm my last q. Just saw what a prop puller looks like and assuming a c clamp won't work. Man this is getting expensive!

Yea I'm checking into the price for a puller, any suggestions? I've heard there are some options.

Is there any value to selling the OEM rear pro ballast bags that I replaced?

Sound like I may want to keep the 537 for pleasure crusing if I was to take it to a big lake, it must suck allot of fuel running the 1235 at anything over wakeboard speed, high RPMs.
We can surf fine at the slow speeds with the 537 and the upgraded ballasts it only labors if the ballasts are full and we try to plain out

Just keep it as a spare
The 1235 will be fine as a daily prop

The 1235 prop is your best bet. Make sure you do not sell the ACME 537 and if needed later down the road you will be able to sell it but it is a good back up for now. 8mph makes me skeptical of it just being the prop....
