2000 20ci. Missouri Ozarks. Taps operation has been slow and intermittent this spring and now does not work. When I push the button the gauges all go 'low', like overload to the system. Is the problem mechanical or electrical? Please reply. The taps plate is in the up position and I want to salom this weekend. M&M

I would check the wiring behind the carling switch in the throttle lever. The toggle button that is. Also look and trace wiring down from behind the throttle lever to the under dash taps module. Im guessing there is a wire pinched or slightly grounding out due to rubbing behind the throttle where it rotates.

You will want to remove the throttle handle to get the taps switch out. There is a small Allen screw on bottom to loosen and it pull right off. If the taps is stuck in the up position most likely there is a wire in the handle that is grounded out from rubbing. It is a pain to fix as there is little room to run the wires in the handle. But a new handle is several hundred dollars.

2000 20CI, Missouri Ozarks. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! I removed the seat, crawled under the steering wheel, removed the carpet covered box, found the Taps fluid to be low. I removed the lexan cover and the filler plug, made a small funnel from a magazine cover, fillled the unit to the proper level. I put it all back together and the Taps now works fine. While under their I checked the wires from the throttle. The wires are tiny and thin. I see where this could be problem in the future. Thanks again. M&M

Have you had the chance to trace down where the fluid may have went? Might have possibly leaked out around the pump seal if it was stuck in the up position for a long period of time. My 20i leaked out most of the fluid when the wires grounded out and it stuck in the down position. I originally thought I would have to replace the cylinder but fixed wires filled reservoir and never had an issue again. Since this incident I try to leave the taps around a 2-3 setting or about level when trailering to prevent strain on the system.
