Jabsco Water Pump leaking

Hey everyone!

Routine impeller change turned into bigger issue...much bigger? I have a Jabsco water pump that appears to be leaking from the bottom. Fired up the engine at home and less water than usual was being sucked through the intake and as a result less was coming out the exhaust. I investigated and notice a water leak coming from what appears to be the bottom of the water pump. Refastened the front pump cover and the issues persisted. Any ideas? Do I need a new pump? We have a 2006, how long do water pumps usually last?

This photo is from the bottom up. Doesn't look like anything is coming off the front cover.

Looks like the drive shaft seal. Im not sure if its serviceable.

Would we need to replace with the same pump or are there other compatible options? The jabsco pump is pricey

When they leak from the drive seal, you can rebuild but usually not worth it. Replace with either the same pump or the Johnson for small block Chevy. I will find and post a link. Also replace the Allen head bolts with stainless and use lock washers with the new bolts.

Post a picture of your valve covers please, I need to determine if it's the LS motor or not. If it's LS you have to replace with same pump.

That's the LS motor. What's the number on the cover plate for the raw water pump?

It's the Jabsco 50410-1401

Thats a very rare pump, not very many available and definitely not cheap. Another option to consider would be purchase one from the previous link I gave you and then swap pulley mounts. I can't guarantee it would even work but for that price I would consider it. Unreal on the pricing...

Yeah I couldn't believe the price either. Is it common for the seals to fail? I would assume it is the original pump so it was 7 years old. I am worried that while trying to pull the impeller out I did something to break it.

I spoke with the guys at marine power. They said the Johnson F6B-9 is what they moved to and would be a direct replacement to the Jabsco. I am skeptical that it will be compatible but I ordered it anyway and will give it a shot. It's worth the effort since that one is only $150. Will report back after we take the other one off.

Got the pumps out last night, here they are side by side. The mounting holes do line up and I contacted MP again this morning. Even though they are different they still say it will work...
