Just glanced at bilge pumps on skidim.com site. This one says it is a direct replacement for the Guardian 500: http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=6031726

Replaced mine last year. Bought on ebay, snapped the old one off the base and the new one in. Connected the wires and tadaaa, new bilge pump without going through the headache of attaching a new base to the hull. Just wish it was more than 500gph

You can always add a second pump in an area that's a little easier to reach and gets more water, such as just forward of the fuel tank. Of course you need to pull the fuel tank out but that's easier than pulling the engine.

That's what I should have done.
