2006 Tige 24VE Perfect pass cruise control

My speedo and cruise control don't work so I took it to the dealer and they recommended a Perfect pass Stargazer system to replace the older analog setup. I just got a call from them and they said that it wont work with my version of the Marine Power engine.... I was really looking forward to using that setup. Anyone have any recommendations for a different system that has the same functions? They they need to order a new paddle wheel setup and control board and they say that may not even fix it. I would like a good digital speed control setup but I guess it might not be available with my engine?? 5.7L MPI

This is the only thread I remember seeing that hinted at any other solution to the Marine Power Cruise Speed Set issues and it wasn't clear exactly what he did.

If its just the paddle wheel that is broken and all your electronics are good, you might be able to use one of the nautiquelogic gps plug and play systems. I think they just trick the system by providing a GPS signal instead of the paddle wheel signal.

I think that you are hosed. Nobody makes anything compatible with your MP ECM. My partner at work has a 2006, and went through all of this. They were able to get him a replacement keypad, which is what was wrong with his. But he got it from tige.

I had a 2007 20V with 5.7 Marine Power engine and my dealer added Perfect Pass Stargazer (GPS) to it and it worked great.

I would think a 2007 would have been EFI. I will have to double check at work but i don't think carb was even an option anymore in 2007. I thought PP wasn't able to be installed on the MP engine. It would be cool to know if someone actually made it work.

The problem is that Tige (in their wisdom, I might add) developed Tige cruise for the first time in 2006 and frankly botched it. But they figured they would try and get a piece of the pie that perfect pass had been getting for years. It is a drive by wire unit and it communicates directly with the ECM to 'drive' the boat. My 2005 MP engine had PP, but it was a throttle by cable, and perfect pass just used that cable to adjust the speed of the boat. You can't do that with TBW. Perfect Pass has not developed a keypad that will communicate with the 2006 ECM.

I was under the impression that it can be added to later years. Not sure what they changed to make it compatible, but I think we have heard of a few guys who have PP in 2007 MP boats.

Believe it or not my was a 5.7 carb engine. I since replaced with 2009 22VE. Not sure if the carb made it possible but it worked well and was a great upgrade.

That's why. The carb does not have throttle by wire, just cable, IIUC.

                      24ve

So do you think you can add stargazer to a 2007 24ve EFI 5.7 Marine power engine. My problem is my speed control floats too much and I can' maintain constant speed. ideas?

This is probably too much of a project to take on but you may be able to replace your throttle by wire helm control with a traditional throttle by cable assembly and then mount the throttle sensor remotely in the engine compartment (It is currently in the throttle handle assembly with just a data cable running back to the engine.) Once the throttle sensor is located in the engine compartment you can get a mechanical drive version of perfect pass and fabricate some mounts to where the perfect pass servo actually drives the throttle sensor.

My boat has this remote mounting option because the previous owner replaced the engine at some point. Mine was originally a throttle cable set up but the new engine he put in is throttle by wire so that is why I have the remote mounting setup. I installed the perfect pass as described above and it took some tweaking and experimenting with different return springs but I eventually got it to work.

Here is a picture of my remote throttle sensor mount before I installed perfect pass.

Thanks for your suggestion. I will show this to my mechanic. Might be back at you if we choose to move forward.
