2013 RZR - Getting New Swim Platform - Should I order the Z3 Platform?

Not trying to jack the thread...just wanted to share an idea since there was mention of scratches and rubs. After having our boat for 1 season, we realised that we ocassionally run up on the platform/boat with our surfboards, wakeboards are ocassionally rubbing against the back when being slipped on and the ratched from our cover is rubbing the gel like hell (not happy about this).

To minimize damage from this, we had a local shop install 3M paint protective film (normally used on the front of cars for stone chips) installed across the entire back of the boat along with the edge of the platform. Feel free to steal this idea.

We have multiple cracks on our platform on top and bottom and only had 18 hours on the boat. Contacted dealer and said no worries, it will be taken care of. Wonder if there was a bad run on the platforms because many are having issues. Our boat was built a little prior to the ASR release and wonder if that has anything to do with the bad platforms. Good thing is they are being fixed or replaced.

You seem to be having horrible luck. I guess if we want to know if there will be any issue with out boats, we should just give you a call. Sorry for your luck - fortunatly it sounds like you have a GREAT dealer to work with. I would get your dealer involved in this ASAP. We had a chunk of fiberglass missing out of our engine cover (covered most of the time) and a few gel cracks in a few corners of the cover. Our dealer was able to get this covered for us. I feel its best to bring this to the attention of your dealer ASAP before they feel that it was "user error".

It's sounds worse than it is. I had the bad trailer and now this crack. My only other issue has been operator error.

But ya.. it has been some grief.

I showed this crack to the dealer before I even posted here. They are chasing it.

Regarding the scuffs and scratches, it sat outside all winter. I won't make that mistake again. And now I know about the cover too!

I have to pull the platform for garage storage each time. I can handle that myself as I left the middle hex bolts out. I just pull the pins, lift and pull. Works well. I think the VX is much heavier and it looks like I would not be able to leave the hex bolts out? Could get expensive too? I'm happy with the wake I just want it a little cleaner so I was thinking about the surf flap perhaps too. If removing the VX is as easy as removing the platform, I might ask them what it would cost.

Man, I would definitely install those middle hex bolts every time you install the platform. It only takes a few seconds but it really stabilizes the platform and keeps it from rattling.

I have to take the platform on and off each time we use the boat due to the garage at the river house being so small. I feel your pain but I also feel much better having those bolts in there.

Thanks. Bolts will be put back in since I'm angling the boat in the garage now and put parking in the driveway for the summer! No more platform removal.

So my dealer finally got back to me on this and I think they are trying to rape me on price... they said it would cost $3700+tax but that they are knocking off $500 since that is what the new platform costs ($300+$200 freight). So $3200+tax. Maybe I'm wrong but this seems way out in left field considering the platform is covered under warranty. Questions:

1) If I just have them put on the 2014 RZR platform only for VX will it being wider affect my surfwake until I can find a deal on the VX later?
2) My current platform is angled up, does the VX one have this same angle?
3) Any ideas on how to order a black VX and brackets? I'm sure I could handle the install myself as long as mounting directions or a template is provided. It only mounts to the bottom of the platform so how hard could it be?

Overall, I'm just frustrated at their offer price. Let me know what you guys think.

Mike, If you search around the forum, you will see several other quotes even more than your price quoted to retrofit a VX. I am not 100% sure, but I believe that if you just put on the standard swim platform brackets and want to add a VX later, it will not work as the VX requires differnt brackets (if my memory is correct). If I recall, the VX alone - on a new build - is a $2500-$3000 option.

Face it, these boats (wake boats in general) are expensive and everything relative to them are. $500-600 for a prop when an I/O prop is $150-200 as an example. My wife said it one day T.I.G.E = This Is Getting Expensive.

I am sure the only way you will get a VX will be through a Tige Dealer and honestly would be suprised if there is any template. These boats are all hand made, and I am sure that the wiring/plumbing is ran slightly different from boat to boat just as they locations of the platform brackets are most likely not as consistant as we would think.

I don't think you dealer is out of line with the price. Tige is pretty proud of the VX, but that being said, they have mold costs and alot of R&D time that needs to be recovered.

The brackets for the VX are completely different, you can't use the exsisting brackets, and the whole platform is different as well. if i take a pic of mine and dandy takes a pic of his you will see a huge difference, but the $2000 to $3000 quote does not seem out of line, Did you by chance ask the dealer as to how long it would be to actually get one? cause when i ordered my boat last year, the Vx was not being shipped because they had issues etc... but once they had the kinks worked out it was around a 6 month plus wait time. But I've heard if you do add it, you definately need more ballast , alot more......

Z1 fan is correct. Only thing that doesn't change is the bracket on the boat. There is a standard swim platform and a VX swim platform, they are not the same. The bracket as well as the platform is different on a platform for use with a VX. Thats a large portion of the cost is the new platform.

I ordered and installed my own VX last year for our 2012 Z3. IT was not a hard job to install but allot of time and double checking. As you see above you have to drill and tap all the holes in both the new platform and the VX itself. I think I paid 3000 when they first come out last year, but my dealer is very fair to me.
