    Rough start to the weekend.

Had a rough start to the weekend. Put the boat in hit the key and the gauges came on but no start. Pulled the trailer out to check everything and then had no power to the gauges. Decided to replace the batteries and when I turned the key I got a low battery warning and no start! Come to find out the starter was shot. Only lasted about 40 hours and the tech said he was on his way to my neighbors to put a starter in his 2014 Z3. Thought I would post just in case others are having similar issues.

Would the 2013 have the PCM engine and the 2014 have Indmar? Bummer to lose the starter after such a short time. Does it get water splashed on it from the bilge?
    Be excellent to one another.

I got a call from dealership when they were de-winterizing my 2012 RZ2, they said there was a problem with the starter and the water pump. Tige warranties them and dealership replaced them.

Yes, 13 has 409 PCM and 14 has the Ilmar. Unfortunately, I bought mine with a handful of hours on it from the original owner so it is not under warranty. Can't say that sets real well with me.

I had the same problem last year however, I could hear the solonoid clicking but it woundn't turn over. A local shop said it was prolly dirty brushes in the starter and reccomended pulling it off so they could test it on a table. Let us know what you find out! Has anybody removed a starter on a 343PCM RZ2? The starter is sim

I think they said the post was busted?? They did have to shave off a corner to get it to fit.

I pulled mine and replaced it BC of water damage, it is a pita. 09 z1 343 my gear was stripped. Sounded like a spinning bendix. Dunno what ur dealer is charging but a marine starter can be had for $150. I will post a phone # if anyone is getting hosed by their dealer

Ugh! If it's anything like my Pcm 6l was I don't envy your position. The block mount on mine requires the muffler to be removed or engine pulled. My ring gear was toast and needed the motor pulled anyway. Boatwakes on here pulled my motor, had his machine shop machine on a new ring gear that supported the crusader (same company as pcm) top mount starter. My starter is now out of the bilge and a really easy fix if I have any starter problems. I plan to keep the boat a long time and just didn't like the starter in the bilge even though it's very common location it sounds like on the 6l motors.

As an owner of a 2014 Z3, I checked Indmar's website and Indmar engines have top mounted water pumps.
