    2013 z1 ballast set up

The Minnesota winter is finally over and the boat is back in the water.

Now, to the lucky people who get to surf all year, what is the latest surf setup that you are using? My boat is a 2013 z1, pro ballast w convex vx.

Last year I think I was running 100% on front and back on surf side and 100% on front other side.

    What's the latest gang?

Last year on our Z1 w/VX and pro surf we ran:
    Front 100% full.
    Surf Side Rear 100% full
Fill until it is flowing out am them let it sit as we generally would I've air trapped. Run again to top off and get full.
    Taps 3-4 Speed 10.8-11.2.
This is all based on memory, we are in MN as well and getting some warranty work water tested this week and then possibly tackling a ballast upgrade thanks to help from mnpracing and chpthril.

Your really going to benefit from an upgrade to a large sac like Dandy.

IMHO I would get ahold of chipthrl and order 1100 or 1400 if they fit and u will be surprised.
        surf till u die.

You may also take a look at Ragboys wake9 ballast bags. We are now running his Z1 bags from the Z3 bags we where running. If you upgrade the rear sacs you will need a extra 400#'s up front. Regular side not such a big deal but the goofy side its a must. In the short term make sure you install check valves in your fill lines to maximize the stock bags you have.

I would like to add, before you add 400 lbs up front, make sure conditions can handle that weight.

            Kyle, you crazy man. ;-)

I'm still working on dialing in my surf wake on the '11 Z1. I have the custom 950 fat sac in the rear locker and the standard ballast ( 400# up front and (2) 250's in the rear). I also added 300 lbs of lead in the bow over the winter. the problem I am having is not height or length, but this annoying "inner lip" right in the middle of the wave. There is a spine that goes all the way up and forms the curl. Its like a hump throughout the whole wave. Ive tried different weight adjustments and plate settings to no avail. I even epoxied in the swim platform bottom over the winter to make it flush on the bottom. I don't have the VX and wondered if anyone else had this same issue. Do I need more weight up front? I even wondered if the Tige logo that protrudes on the side is causing it.

List over a bit more, does that inner lip go away? List a bit more by taking a bit of weight off of opposite side, usually.

I haven't tried zero weight on off side yet. With with 950 and hard tank full I'm about 5 degrees list according to iPhone app. It's pretty dirty (couple inches below rub rail with ballast full) as seen on pic 3 of the home page. I'll try it with no weight in the off side n see if it goes away.

That doesn't sound right, that with 950 and hard tank you only have 5 degrees of list.

Let me tell you how we dial in the Z1 and the Z3, and its pretty much the same with or without VX.

Start with the regular side because its a bit easier. Fill up front all the way, fill up surf side rear all the way, and put people so that heavier on surf side. Add weight to the opposite side until you get about 8 or 9 degrees of list. Set taps around 3 and go 11. If the wake has a cut or double lip, take some more out of opposite side. If the wake is clean but a bit rolled over, add weight to the opposite side until you see that cut in the wake, and then back off til it just goes away. Usually the best shape (unless you like it rolled over) is just when that cut disappears.

Do the same thing for the goofy side, but start with 11-12 degrees of list, the goofy side needs a bit more list and more sensitive to people on the opposite side.

Let me know if that helps.

Oh, measure the list at rest, before you start moving.

Maybe the phone isn't that accurate. It was bobbing between 4-5. I held on back step/top of transom w/boat off. I'll give zero weight on non surf n try a bit more on surf side. Thanks for the help ragboy!

yw, for the record, we measure off of the fiberglass just in front of the engine compartment, about there backrest of the rear seat, its flat there. I def would not use anything attached to swim deck, but I don't think that is what you meant. The swim deck is mounted to the hull, and could be a tad off.

I just want to point out that Bedwards mentioned it is a 2011 Z1 which has a different hull w/narrow beam than the 2013-14 that would be more similar to the Z3. Not sure if it matters but wanted to clarify.

Thank you very much for the clarification. Sorry, my setup is for 2012 and newer, I never really got any time with the older Z1. 5 degrees still sounds too little list, though.
