    Random New Tige Q&A

Although it seems like I've been on this site forever, I still have only ever used my new boat twice. However I should get it out in the next two weeks (finally). I have some newbie-ish questions and they are pretty random, so I figured I'd just start a thread for random questions. Feel free to add if you like. Just number your questions, so people can answer them.

    1) Trailering - I've noticed that my board racks don't latch on the inside position. I need to flip them in for trailering because otherwise they will hit my shed when I park. (see pic). However when they are flipped in they smack the Rev 10's. Anyone have a solution to this? I was thinking of putting some foam tubing on the fingers to protect the speakers. As you can see, I just stuck some foam mats in there for now.

    2) Water pooling in storage - As you can also see in the pic above, when it rains water always pools in the cover. It is right on either side, but the Alpha-Z. Any advice on how to prevent this?

    3) While we are on the topic of rain, I notice that the boat gets wet inside whenever it rains. I think the reason is that rain hits the tower, then travels down the tower into the boat. The seal on the cover is shabby at best. Has anyone got a clever way to prevent this?

    4) Removing Platform / Vx -

As you can see in the picture, there are 3 bolts and a pin on each side for both the Vx and the platform itself. I understood that it was "easy" to flip these both down or off for convenient storage. How do you do that? Do you just run with 1 bolt and a pin (in the case of Vx) or 2 bolts and a pin (in the case of the platform). I found that getting both of these off took a lot of effort and was nearly impossible to do alone.

    5) Charging battery - if I want to trickle charge the battery to keep it topped up, where do I connect? My boat has the isolator circuit. It is as simple as + and - on either battery?

    6) Surf boards in racks - I have the surf bimini, but given that its not that hot here in the summer, I doubt I'll have it up. I'd rather fit my boards into the racks. However the last board I did that with got really beat up. I ended up making a sleeve for it to sit in. Anyone have something clever to do the same? I obviously don't have the clamping racks.

I think that's all for now. I'm sure I'll have 10 more questions after I actually get to use the thing! 9 more days....

    1. It depends on how much friction there is with those board racks. Mine still have lots of friction, takes some effort to spin them, so I usually spin them facing aft for trailering. I use the bungee to hold them in close to the tower for folding but your trying to avoid that with your rev10. If I were you I would have them facing aft for most towing and then use the foam like you have there for when you park it.

    2. For the water pooling, you should be able to get that cover a little tighter and pull that tower line a little higher it keep those puddles from happening. Did your cover also come with poles to prop up the cover from the inside? I'd use those as well.

3.To keep water from running inside the boat I recommend moving so you can park it in a nice warm garage.
J/k, I have heard that you can wrap the tower base with Saran Wrap or some type of plastic wrap, but do it so you plastic wrap the tower holes under the wrap to make a water resistant seal at the base of the tower legs.

4.I can't help you with the swim platform, different type of brackets than mine, but it's got twice the glass as my basic platform and I use 2 people to get mine off so to speak.

    5. Are you using an onboard charger or a small portable trickle charger, do you float, play the stereo and run the house battery low each time your out? If so a trickle charger won't cut it. You'll need something with more amps. Yes, just hook it up to the batteries. As long as the amps are less than what the alternator puts out you should be fine not to disconnect the batteries to charge them.

    6. Do you have kids along with you? Or a sun sensitive spouse? Then you might run with the Bimini on more than you think. I usually have it up every trip and I'm not much warmer than you are up there.

JMo - I sent you a PM. I have a document I can email you that breaks down the VX removal. Included my feedback on the rest in it as well. Good luck!

#2 - Different boat but I have found if I jack my trailer up and raised the nose, it helps the water roll back towards the transom.

#3 - I just deal with it but its also why I had the thread about adding a center drain plug because I get water in during rain. Good reminder to leave your plug OUT while storing it.

#5 - I can be a cheap and just thought it wasn't much effort to drag out my charger to charge my batteries on previous boats. When I bought my Tige previous owner put in an on board charger and I will never go back. It really easy I have a extension cord where its parked and in 3 seconds its plugged in and in 3 seconds its unplugged. Plus I then play my stereo when I am in my backyard without worrying about draining the battery.

I hate my bimini but I usually put it up 99% of the time even in the off season with no sun out.

#5 - I use 2 battery tenders (TM) and have their leads permantly connected to the batteries. Each time I put it away, I turn the EDIB to "OFF" and connect the charging units to their leads. I float alot on the weekends and it has always recharged for the next day or next weekend just fine.

Try a pool noodle cut to size. Most have a handy center hole that you can slip over the finger. I use cut pool noodles on the surf portion of my racks to take up space so I can put a wakeboard in there without it banging around.

If you are storing outside, consider propping up some poles under there.

First, hit the cover with a coat of good waterproofing. I am getting to use the 303 product for the same reason.

Second, perhaps get a big role of that plastic wrap movers use to secure drawers in dressers. When you store, just make a few passes around the tower leg.

Bimini is sun protection not heat protection. Owning a boat exposes your family to a lot of uv doses. Cut down on this by always running with the bimini. Your passengers can usually find a sunny spot on the rear bench or bow. And you will have your surf pockets (which are absolutely amazing to use).

My dealer just sent me different spacers to prevent the board racks from hitting the speakers. I would get a hold of them. I have the 2014 Z1 very similar to yours. Good luck.

Some great advice here. (what a great site)

#1/6. My Phase 5 Trident fits really snug in the skinny slot. The Ronix Koal flops around in the larger one. I think I'll try the pool noodle route. They also have that stuff to insulate copper plumbing lines. It's nice and grey as I recall, so I may try that too. It looks like I'm stuck with them hitting the speaker either way you slice it.

#2/3. As for rain, whether I use the post or the rope, its pretty much the same effect. I think I'll try to rig up some support poles (hockey sticks perhaps?) to create a peak between the centre post and the edge of the boat. That should keep the water out. Treating with a waterproofing also makes sense. Good thought. I do have some of that packing wrap, but I may try to invent a collar to stick on there too. I'll keep my eyes open.

#4 Dandy's process looks the same as what I figured. So you run all day with just the single pivot bolt plus the pin? Quite clever actually, as I don't know how it could ever fall out.

#5 For battery chargers, I have the typical 12V trickle, plus one of the genius chargers (genius 3500). I can connect it up full time and use the extension cord or otherwise. However do I need one for each battery? Is it possible to charge both together? I assume when you turn off the switch, it breaks the circuit between the batteries.

#6 I do have kids along, so maybe my sunny boating days are behind me. On my last boat I made a custom bimini that was hard to take down, so I left it up and got used to it. Perhaps the Tige will be the same. I'll try it out and see!

Oh and thanks to Dandy for this: Tige = This Is Getting Expensive

                  @ glides

Where do those little gizmos attach? That looks like a good solution.

Is there any chance that you could fit the costco 10x20 canopy in that parking spot?

There's all kinds of options for structures. However spending more money for the benefit of the boat is not allowed. Oh, and anything that makes the yard ugly is not allowed. And spending time to get the water off it is not allowed. In fact typing on this forum is also generally frowned upon.

Time to cash in on a new one and I'm not talking about the boat. Lol!!!
