I'm being told 2 different things and I'm curious what others opinions are. I'm 5.9'ish, 185lbs which size board should I use (surf style) 4.7 or 5.1? Boat - RZ2 with the big extra sacks added. My 1st thoughts were 4.7 but will the 5.1 be ok or is it too big?

A smaller board will be harder to keep in pocket if you are beginner or intermediate. A bigger board will be more difficult to toss around if you are advanced.
I am 6' and 175 lbs and ride my wife's 4'6" Walker Project F-18 -- it is slightly too small. I have to put my back foot farther forward than I would like and my stance is shorter than I prefer.

Depends on the board. Width of the board, overall outline, thickness, and rocker have a lot more to do with displacement than length.
Like Robert said, longer board are generally for taller people and really heavy people (280+). Also, some people just like longer boards, in the 4'11 to 5'2" range.
At you weight you can ride many 4'6" or 4'8" board, but it really depends on the model.
What are you looking at?
