    Perfect Pass vs Tige Cruise

We are thinking of adding Perfect Pass or Tige cruise to our boat and I would appreciate any suggestions.

The Tige cruise is less expensive but Perfect Pass appears to have a lot more features. I have never used either one so I am clueless. Please help us decide.

If it matters, on any given day we might board, ski, skate, and surf.

We have had both, and after using the Tige speed set the last 2 weekends it takes some getting used to. The pro's are that it is ECM controlled, so it holds speed better, especially when turning. You can turn it on after you have started your pull, which you can't do with PP. Tige speed set would be better if there were a digital speedo IMO. From our experience so far you can't make as fine of adjustment with the Tige speed set, it seems to go down 1 mph or up 1 mph when you push the slower or faster button. I would say get the Tige speed set simply because you don't have to deal with a paddle wheel, cable and everything else that could break.

The guys at the Ski Dock said pretty much the same thing as akdoc.

If Tige's new system means 1 mph increments, I would DEFINITLY go PP. .3 mph is the difference between whitewash and the perfect wake for me, I don't think I could handle that sort of jump.

Also, PP doesn't do a terrible job holding speed in the turns, but you have to make a fairly gradual turn for it not to "slip out." However, our lake is so small that a power turn is usually necessary to hug the nice water near the shore, so I dont really ever have that luxery. I am willing to make that concession though, as a little speed through the turn never was an issue for me.

Maybe you should have your local dealer allow you to demo both, and make your own decision.

I've read in posts on other forums that the speed set (not Tige specific)doesn't hold speed very well when there is alot of ballast added.

Does anyone know if this is the case?

I would like to do a demo, but my dealer is 2 1/2 hours away, so that makes it tough.

For a 2006 Tige, perfect pass is plug-and-play. You don't have to change the paddle wheel and there are no servos. It is ECM controlled just like Tige's. You do have to change the ECM though and I was told that Tige will switch it out for the shipping cost.

Can you just manually add throttle in a turn to keep pp from "slipping out"? If it does slip out, how do you get it to re-engage?

I do like the idea of .3 MPH increments vs 1 MPH and the digital display.

I only lose speed when I turn in the direction of the prop...I think it has something to do with where the speed pickup is for the PP. When I go in the other direction, it's fine. To answer your question, yes, you can always add more power and it will re-engage.

Can you put the Tige cruise on an older Tige??

I believe it requires fly-by-wire throttle control.

Instead of a cable that goes from the throttle to the engine and physically moves the throttle linkage, it is all electronic.

                          bneub,

You kinda answer your own question, I would go with the PP since it is plug and play. I am a little disappointed with the speed set because there is no digital display and the speed increase and decrease is so big. Go with PP and don't look back.

We have filled about 1000 lbs. of ballast to surf and the speed set had no problem keeping speed.

I ordered pp yesterday and it should arrive next week. Thanks for all the input, I love tigeowners.com!

Has anyone installed pp in a 2006 Tige? Here is what I understand...

There should be a plug under the dash already to connect pp to.
I will need to drill a hole to the right of the steering wheel in the dash to mount the unit. Will a hole saw work fine here?
I will need to swap my ECM for one programmed differently from Tige.
                            Set-up and calibrate pp.

Am I missing anything major, or is it really that simple? I always am suspicious when someone says "it will just plug right in"!

                            Thanks again!

I wish I would have gotten perfect pass. I am not overly impressed with Speed Set, personally I think it sucks.
