GM to Drop Marine Engines

Thought I would pass this random information along.
I spoke with Greg at ACME this morning about a prop for our boat and he stated that they just recieved an order from Tige for different stock props to accomodate the change in engine supplier. I guess all the tow boat manufactures are trying to figure out how to handle this. From his understanding, GM is going to be dropping out of the marine industry at least for the tow boat market. It sounds as if the Ford power plants will be replacing the GM and have a different power curve, requiring different prop recommendations from the boat manufactures.
Things are always changing everywhere. Happy to be powered by GM - at least for now.

That came out last Fall and is one of the reasons Tige went with Indmar I heard. My Dealer told me that all the motors Indmar puts out will be using the Ford 6.2L Raptor block and it will be tuned differently for each class. And that they may be putting the EcoBoost into some boats. All rumors but.......

Man, seems like a dumb move on gm's part to just quit making products that are selling. I"m sure the ford engines will work great as well.

Yep that was a big part of the move to Indmar. Indmar has a plan and supply to change over. Claim was that PCM really wasn't prepared when the 5.7's stopped. Seems like that would be poor planning on PCM's part, but who knows. I will be curious to see the changes.

Does anyone know for sure if this will be the last year of 350's in boats? When is the projected change over to the 6.2?

I thought GM quit building the 5.7's awhile back so I thought most in the industry kind of expected it to happen

GM will be using the 5.3 and 6.2 in marine applications. Only the 5.7 will be dead.

I would think the 5.0 liter Ford Motor currently in the F-150 would make a excellent tow boat motor.
