2006 Tige 24VE brand new to surfing. Swim platform modifications?

I just bought this boat and want to set it up right for surfing. I installed the ballast system and am going to take it out next week. I wanted to see if I need to modify the swim platform, or buy a new one? Or can I just keep the one that is currently installed from the factory? I have never really surfed and I want to make sure I don't make it any harder than it needs to be. Any input would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

What is your ballast set up? How much weight and where is it?

I have the Enzo sack on the left side that I'm told will hold about 1300 pounds or so. I have a 750 pound sack on the right side. And a 700 pound sack up in the bow. I'm not sure how I should distribute the weight to give me the ideal surfing wake, but that's the setup that I currently have.

Fill rear surf side all the way. Fill non surf side rear 25% to 30%. Fill front full. Set taps between 3 and 4 and speed set at 10.4 to 11.6. This should give you a base to adjust from. Increasing TAPS makes wave taller. Increasing speed makes wave longer.
I do all my own stunt work. hey ya'll watch dis.

Congratulations on the purchase! Put up some pictures!

Robert gave you a great recipe. If the wave is dirty (white wash) just drain a little bit of the non surfside rear (counter weight) until it cleans up. I have a different boat but before I trimmed my platform (it was teak), you could see the platform on the opposite side of the surfer skimming the surface of the water and it would mess up the wave. Get the platform out of the water with TAPS lower or by dumping the weight and it will clean up. If the water is rougher, you will likely have to run less counter weight as well.

Is the 24Ve platform fiberglass or do you have teak?

The platform is teak. The first time I tried it there was a lot of white water and no clean wake at all and I was thinking it might be the platform. So I doubled the weight and thought it might be good to adjust the platform?? I havent taken it out yet with the weight in the bow and the enzo sac though.

I have a 24V not a VE but they should be similar.

The teak is smooth on the bottom so the complaints about the lip on the bottom of the fiberglass would not apply to your setup. I am betting that you ran taps at 6 or 7 instead of the 3-4 Robert mentioned above. Until I cut the platform and made a wave flap, TAPS less than 5 was required or no wave would form.

I have teak on mine. When I first bought my boat, I filled only an 1100 lb sac in the rear and it was very clean (only filled to maybe 900lbs if that). My guess is that the you didn't have enough weight to list the boat over enough. The 24V and VE is a big boat and can take a ton of weight.

Its ok if the surfside platform is buried in the wave, it should still be clean. My wave improved with my platform not touching the wave but it was incremental and not huge (I would do it again but I understand why others would not even after having surfed the improved wave). If anything, it just made it easier as I don't have to worry about the opposite side hitting anymore.

Try Robert's suggestion. If you have people get them all in the surf corner. Keep dumping offside weight until it cleans up. Taps 3-4, I doubt it will clean up for you if TAPS is higher than 4.

You can also try no bow weight. Ragboy didn't run much bow weight until they heavily modified the Wake9 24VE. If you have a smaller crew you may want to leave the bow empty:

and here is a post when they loaded up extra weight and added bow weight:

You should be able to get a really great surf wave pretty easily. I was very happy with mine the first time i took it out and only had an 1100 in the surfside rear locker (although now I am pushing 3k+ in ballast when surfing and love it!).

              Good luck!!

I have an 06 and found that adding weight to the front will lengthen the wave but decrease the amount of push. As of right now I run 900 lbs in the locker, 400 under the surf side seat and another 400 lbs on the floor running along the back seat and it's extremely tall with tons of push. This year i'm going to the enzo sac so it's one less sac to fill and i'm going to experiment with Roberts weight set up.

That is great information. Thanks everyone! We are taking it out next week to give it a try. Its already going to be in the 90's here in Arizona so it should be perfect. I'll post pictures after I get back. Looking forward to a great summer!!

I run 300 surf side bow and 200 in lead in the center of the bow under the cushion. I like a long meaty wave, plus without the bow weight the boat would never get to 12-13mph!

I learned tons reading all of the Duffy's threads! Nearly everything in my setup I got from Duffy's work, big custom bags being worth it, the platform mod,the mud flap....etc. He knows 24 foot Tige's as well as anyone!

The ve is slightly different. It will take a while to dial in what you like. Good thing it's fun to do

Thank you for this. I've been filling the non-surf side sac full (700lbs) and have not gotten the wave I want. Can't wait for the lake to warm to try the set-up you recommend.

For those who modified the 24v swim deck, where did you reduce it?
