It is no different than a car dealership though. Some guys want to drive their vehicles right through the showroom doors on fire and others will love the same dealership. It all comes down to how you are treated when you have a problem. If a person has a problem with a car dealer though they can usually find another in the same city or within an hour or so. In the boating industry a guy is kind of screwed. But like Wicked said that is why we have the option to chose another brand. I just don't know how a company can justify letting a customer go to a different brand instead of giving them options to buy outside their local area and stick with their brand.
I have heard they sell the most boats for Tige. That is great. So if the price seems high for the ASR a person should just overpay for a Z3 instead. There is a lot of wealthy people in that market that don't mind spending that kind of money. Which is why they have no problem moving that many boats at those prices. Just sucks for the guy that does his homework and can save thousands on a boat but is not able to buy outside that market. Is that fair? Guess it depends on which side of the sale you are on.

Ha. Sorry I just missed you tonight JohnnieMo. I was there with our guest bartender, former pro-wakeboarder and legendary coach Jeff Heer. He will be at The Dockside tomorrow night for wing night to reminisce and share stories about the old days when in was considered impressive to throw big inverted air at 22 mph instead of slashing a wave at 10.6.
And I would be happy to share with you the "differences" I have learned recently between selling beer and pizza versus towboats. One has much better margins, more potential customers, and fewer warranty issues

No, the profit margin is not 50%, to the dealer anyway. And at our new world of it costing 1.12 Canadian to buy 1.00 United States Dollar, all towboats have taken a big jump in price for 2014 in Canada. But setting all of that aside, this is one badass boat and the day our ice thaws here in the great (but ridiculously expensive) white north, I will have that boat in the water and I know it will be a blast to run, ride, and rock. The price is crazy, but the couple that placed a factory order with me for one last week summed it up well: "An expensive two-seater sportscar is often just another guy having a midlife crises. A great new boat just shows how much we love our time with family". I don't think they meant that everyone needs a boat at this price level, but there are plenty of other expensive hobbies that guys (and it is generally us that do so) can get into that don't always create years of valued memories and photos of great family time (sales pitch off).
In the rush to get this boat up here for the Calgary and Edmonton Boatshows, the convex was held up and should be here soon.
Can't wait to launch that boat at the Hyperactive Marina!

I dunno I am not a math major but selling 20 boats at 140k is no where near the profit of selling 50 to 60 boats at 100k.. Nor does it give you as much as Exposure to your new product with more of them out there.. Guess we will see how many they will sell.
I am not buying one and thats that. And its not cause I cant afford it its because I think its FLAT OUT INSANE and I do not see the value in spending that on this boat. Its not $70,000 better than any other boat in the Line.. call it what you want but this boats average price is $60,000 more than the rest of Tige Line up! Please explain that too me?www.1320diesel.com Home of the Fastest Diesels!

Just one question, is the G23 or X-star worth it?
Maybe not in your eyes but everyone that is buying must think it is worth it.
Plus do you even know the market conditions in Alberta? I am there 4 times a year and the money from the oil sands is driving the cost up for everything. A lot of the guys working in the sands work 7 days on, 7 days off, are in their low to mid 20's and make well north of $100k annually. They spend their money on toys and trips to Vegas.
McDonald's and Tim Hortons can't keep employees because everyone would rather get paid $100k plus in the sands.
Where I live I can probably get a well optioned ASR for $30k less then what the guys in Alberta are paying once you factor in the dollar, market differences/conditions and the expense of living. A dollar in north central WI goes a lot further than in NYC, Alberta, LA and etc.
Will I get one, don't know yet. I have to ride in an ASR before I hold judgement on if it is too expensive or not for my needs."You're rather attractive for a beautiful girl with a great body."

I am not just talking about Canada Fellas lol.. And no the G and x star are not worth it.. Hence why wont buy either of them either
But your right we all have the choice.. And everyone giving there input are you buying the ASR? If not why are you giving input? I was ready to buy but the more I think about it. The more insane it sounds.
And worse off I live in Denver so anything smaller than a 555 is not an option on this boat. In Texas the 555 took a beating to plane sacked out. Sitting back and watching at this point!
I really don't want to buy another brand as I love the guys at my Local Tige dealer but Im having a hard time spending way more than I can get a brand new SupremeLast edited by Wickedcummins; 03-19-2014, 04:01 PM.www.1320diesel.com Home of the Fastest Diesels!

I am in the market for a new boat in probably 1-2 years. I am holding out to see what the next big thing will be. I think the surf industry is still in it's infancy and there is much more to come.
Is the ASR the best surf boat? I do not know. Have not seen a wave like Ragboy got out of the Z3 or RZ2 on the ASR yet.
My next boat will be a Tige. The Z3 or ASR. The reason I am going with Tige is my dealer is a rock star. I am afraid if I go with a boat that is less expensive has the same or better wave I will only regret it when it comes to my dealer experience."You're rather attractive for a beautiful girl with a great body."

Right, Wrong or Otherwise, here are my 2 cents. I think that these more expensive boats are a salable "show car". Yes they are in the market place, they require a high income to purchase and yes, they will sell some. As they get out, get feedback from owners of these boats, opinions from people on the dealer floors/boat show floors the manufacturers are going to look at what people are looking for. The thing I notice most about the ASR is great storage, not just in size but in efficiency. They found ways to incorporate additional storage in different ways. That is huge to me...not worth the huge price tag however. Now, if in the next 2-3 years they build a boat with more hidden ballast and more storage, that would get me to consider trading for a new boat. At the end of the day, they need to grab out attention, hold it and then put something in front of us that we want to spend out hard earned $$$ on. Is the ASR over priced, that's up to each consumer. Maybe Tige doesn't really want to sell high volumes of this boat but figure out what we as consumers are looking for. Just check out all the ASR threads, other than the price almost everyone has stated something that they like about it, now incorporate that into a smaller, less expensive package and they would sell a pile of them (maybe even the 50-60 at $100K as Wicked stated)."I think I am pretty smart for an idiot"

I have to agree that these boats are getting outrageous in price. Last year at the Calgary boat show, the G23 they had was priced at 160k out the door. I can't imagine paying that kind of cash on something that can be used for 5-6 months of the year if your lucky. There are alot of these boat now like the G series, the ASR, or the new XStars that actually cost more than i paid for my house. Realistically, my boating season is 4 months long so i had a tough time convincing my wife we should spend 40k on a boat. What really does bug me is how many of these 80,90, or 100k+ plus boats i see at the lake and they almost never leave the dock or trailer and when they do they just pull a tube around for a while. Not that i'm a great wakeboarder or surfer but at least i use my boats for the intended purpose.

I'm about to order my RZ4 this week and its in the $130K mark after dealer and boat show discounts and that's not a fully optioned boat.
Some very good observations in the recent comments here. I am with you guys on the insane pricing and I really question the sense of these huge boats. Tige did an outstanding job with the last three new boat designs (RZR, Z3, an Z1). I was first in line to get those to my dealership and they are the boats that have earned Tige a more respected position in the marketplace. But I really second guessed myself in ordering this first ASR giving how massive it looked and expensive it was. I am betting that any small business person that saw the landed cost of this boat in Canada would think I am crazy to invest this kind of capital in one inventory item based on the potential gross margin that "might" be earned. But given the recent track record of Tige in building great new boats and an obligation to my customers to bring in the newest boat in the line for them to see, we ordered the most heavily loaded and expensive boat ever purchased by Hyperactive. After watching the number of G series boats that hit the highways and waterways around me last summer, I am happy that we have it in the product offering in that class, and we have already sold one factory ordered ASR. I don't think I will sell a large number of them but it is definitely not a show-boat that the manufacturer pressed on the dealer network like Malibu did with that ridiculous corvette boat that dealers could not give away after the hype died down. Can this boat be designed, built, and sold for less money? I can't answer that in any other way than that in my market the expensive boats are way easier to sell than the less expensive ones. Everyone wants an fully loaded boat and in the marine business that seems to cost more to provide than in the auto business for obvious volume reasons.
Regarding the pricing, I can't stress enough and others here have already noted, that everything in Canada costs more than most places in the US. We are less than 35 million people living on the second largest land mass on the planet. Our oil and gas and related industries take the best and brightest workers and pay them very well right down to the unskilled labor jobs. The average home cost in Calgary just hit $500,000 and that is ordinary homes, not the mini-mansions I see in places like Scottsdale, Houston, Dallas etc for 1/3 less. Other important commodities like beer, food, and gasoline are expensive here too but we are stuck with paying these costs to live here. Our strong economy creates the demand for expensive toys, but our customers can drive south and bring a boat back from the US where a dealer with lower costs can afford to sell it for less than I can. And this is what keeps local dealers from making a premium or "gouging" our customers as it would be called here. If making huge money and not working too hard was an individual's career goal, I am here to tell you that being a boat dealer is not the right path. But getting to work with great people, customers, and products from companies like Tige has made this a pretty cool job and opened some new doors for the future. The marine industry everywhere needs more good people, so if you are passionate about boats, you might want to log off and take a shot at it too. I am thinking that Wickedcummins should be first in line for this. I really can't afford an ASR for myself, but still can't wait to get out with the "demo".
Pics of the new digs coming soon Ragboy.Last edited by tigecanuck; 03-19-2014, 08:19 PM.

The malibu and mc dealers have been bringing triples to the show for years but I never did before, as the reality is that somebody would have to own the stupid and impractical, but cool looking thing that was absolutely not needed or even a good idea under any of the other Tige models.
