Did you use any type of nylon washer between the aluminum and SS screws? You're going to get some galvonitic (sp?) corrosion between the Al and SS screws because they are different types of metals. Looks like a great idea though, nice job.

      No. I completely forgot.

I expect to redo it at some point soon though as I would really like a way to remove it quickly. I have to take the swim platform off every time we use the boat so it will fit in the garage. It's heavy and awkward to do it now with the flap!

It's really only for the goofy side as the regular side has always been clean. I only have 2 friends who ride goofy and one rarely comes out on the boat.

That looks sweet! I like your mounting idea. We could have gone that route since we have the same platform but it never even crsossed my mind. I wished I had a good idea for you on how to remove easily. The platform is heavy enough without the flap.

Duffy, was there a reason you cut your flap at the depth of the bottom of your boat? I am about to bolt up my flap but am going to try a longer version of the 3/4" mat. Mine will go as deep as the bottom of my FAE.

No need for it to be any longer in my opinion, plus I thought it looked better being at the length I have it. But the stuff is cheap, try anyway you want!

I think mine is ~28" long. I'd love to try and trim it down to as small as possible to save on weight and stress on the mounting bracket.

How long is everyone else's...the flap that is.

Keep in mind there is a difference between actual/effective length depending on whether you mount the flap rigidly pointing downward versus rotatable around a rod.

For our floppy/rod install, the length was sufficient to extend an inch or so past the rear edge of the swim platform to compensate for the platform lip. If you have a rigid/mount and you want to extend past the rear edge of the swim platform, then you will need a longer length to do so.

Regarding weight and stress, I think these are relatively non-issues for the floppy/rod install because the mat is just being dragged over the top of the water. I do think there are stress issues with the rigid/mount install because the water force vector is perpendicular to the mount -- I would be even more cautious where mounted into the fiberglass rather than the metal platform braces.

My dimensions are similar to Duffy's.

Also for what its worth, before I trimmed my platform, the flap was further from the boat. When I trimmed my platform, I had to move the cross brace closer to the boat. I could not tell a difference between the two regarding proximity to boat/FAE.

Our flap extends about two inches past the swim platform. We trimmed like that becuase our platform has a lip. Ours is the floppy/rod design.

Whiteflash, change to the rigid. So much better!

So, after the final shaping of the flap here's our regular wave. Just me and the wife in the boat.

Thanks Duffy! Here's our goofy wave. It's a lot better than it was, surf flap has certainly helped, but it still could be a lot better. It's actually surfable now.

When I bumped up the speed it washed out the lip even worse. The speed above seemed to be the sweet spot. List was right about 10*. I have to list it over way more. Once I get going I can put a little water in the opposite side (only alittle) and it helps the lip, as you see at the end of the video. Camera placement is awful so sorry about that. Still needs some work but it's a step in the right direction.

Well made a surf flap for my 2009 RZ2 this weekend and wow did it clean up the wave!

I used the tractor supply horse stall mat and some 1x1/8 aluminum angle to mount to the brackets on the swim platform. It worked out great.
