How stiff is the rubber? That is the real secret or key to the whole idea.

My flap is made out of a heavy rubber shop type mat I purchased at home depot. I think it's 5/8 thick. Definitely not as stiff as 3/4 horse stall mat but it gets the job done. I really only need mine for the goofy side. Speed of about 11 goofy and taps at 2 my goofy shapes up nice with the mat knocking down the rooster tail that's the key for me. My mat is cut alittle longer than the bottom edge of of the taps plate in the 1 position.

I hung 3/4 inch horse mat measuring 4' x 2.5'. Its pretty stiff and heavy, seems to do the job just fine.

                    Looks really good,

You may want to trim the sides so its not a square. I used a similar mat for my older boats surf flap. If your corners are square it cuts into the wave and messes up the face. play around with it and figure out the best angle

Can we get a couple more pics of the quick release that you built in? Is the flap held to the bracket only by the two pins at the end? Kind of like the idea of being able to remove mine as it is screwed to the bottom of my wood platform now. Amazing how they really work to smooth the wave.

the flap is held by the 9 bolts. The pins at the end also go through the mat, but their primary function is holding the small "locking" bracket in place.
The boat is already at the river for the summer, I'll take a few more pictures this weekend while I'm there.

I think if people surf this is a simple and must mod. I would have guessed the major boat brands would have copied it and made it look nicer by now. Simple and effective. I always assumed the vx was a "pretty" copy of the mod.

I want to start making a flap for my 09 22Ve but so far I'm a bit confused as to what shape/dimensions I should be making it after looking at all of the different threads? Should I try and cover damn near the whole left to right side of the platform given that I have the lip on my platform or should I stay within the brackets? I see others are anywhere from the whole width of the platform to 3'-4' wide. Obviously I can always cut down as I go but figured I try and get a good starting point. Length I'm not worried about as I can figure that out once I have the mat mounted and can see how far past the platform it comes and trim accordingly.

My 09 RZ2 platform has a lip that cosmetically interfered with the wave. So I made my flap to extend fully side to side and past the rear lip. It made a difference in how the rear corner digs into the wave. A link to my flap project is here.
