    2009 Speedset worry

Hello everyone, as some may already have read Ive just acquired a 2009 22ve. Ive been searching these forums intensely for random info so I can take care of things before the season starts and Ill be ready to go!

Somehow I stumbled upon issues with the 2009 Speedset, but did not find any clear evidence of there being a resolution. Has there been a resolution to the common Speedset issues yet? If so Id like to take care of it ASAP to avoid head aches later on the water.

If there is no clear resolution Id go as far as to get a Star Gazer or something similar if it would work on the 2009 BUT Im not sure how it would since the screen is controlled by the Speedset key pad. Any insight to this, is there an option that would work?

Or am I just jumping the gun here and not all 2009's have problems? It worked on my test drive but I only messed with it twice.

I want to do any and everything I can to have a trouble free summer, so even if I am jumping the gun i hope yall understand!!

    Thanks!

Not all 2009 boats with Speedset and the PCM 343 have issues. Mine has never had the problems that some have. The only time that ours has failed to catch has been when the driver forgets to activate it. That does bring to mind a minor annoyance - ours does not provide any visual or audible indication that it has been activated, perhaps because ours was a very early build in the model year and maybe has an older software version. But I can live with that since it hasn't had any of the other problems.

Well that is great to hear! How many hours on your boat?

Can't remember exactly, but somewhere around 175. Wish it was more.

If you have the PCM I think you can go to Perfect pass. Most of the problem you have heard about are probably with the speed set on The Marine Power 340 engine. With that set up the only option is the factory speed set, as Perfect pass will not work. You hear quite a few complaints about that set up, haven't heard any with the PCM engine.

This is the biggest thread on the issue, last updated 2011.

It has never been completely resolved. But updating to the most recent software helps a lot. Also, much of it comes down to style of hole shot. If you ease up the throttle you have more chance that SpeedSet will skip the target speed. In contrast, a hammer down start rarely if ever misses the target speed.

Buried in that thread is the suggestion that this is not really a Tige specific problem, but rather a Medallion controller issue with modern fly by wire systems.

Btw congrats on your 2009. I think it is a sweet spot year.

boardman, I believe the problem was with the PCM as well sadly.

Duncan, I read that whole thread last nigh. I can honestly say it got me worried. I wonder if a dealer could even still flash a boat that old?

Im going to be doing some testing with the boat in the coming weeks to make sure she is summer ready, you can bet Ill be messing with the Speedset. I hope to not have a problem BUT if I do I want to get it corrected ASAP. It sucks when your friends cant drive the boat like you can for them and then throw an issue like this in the mix and is has me worried Ill not get enough good runs in!!!

Well, you put your finger on the button ... Speedset misses much less frequently when I am driving and when it does, I usually suspect it will (because I am doing a weird pull). But when I am in the water, the seems to occur alot more. Speedset is "on" but the driver (ahem) seems to have inconsistent acceleration profiles.

And give up on getting anywhere close to equal pull time

The one thing that does seem fixed is the frequent screen lockups that used to occur. The flash to the new software seemed to fix that.

The above linked thread provides what I think is the latest flash version -- you can check to see if your Medallion system is up to date by watching the screen at start up.

I had some issues with my 2009 RZ4 PCM 409 where is would not pick up the speed or drop speed my first year which was a year and a half ago. Over the winter I bought the Nauticlogic paddle wheel to GPS plug and play and I have had no issues since this time. It was a fairly easy install and would highly recommend it. I did have to make up a patch cable as the one attached to the unit was too short for my boat.

gasoline, I was wanting to upgrade to one of those since Ive never had any real luck with paddle wheels on my boats. I put a GPS speedo in my last boat and loved it, always worked no matter what.

What made you buy the Nauticlogic speedo? Did you break the paddle or just tired of inaccuracy?

Ohhhhh, could you link to the product that fit your 2009 RZ4?

Oops, never mind, just saw this thread
