I was recently perusing around wake world and saw a posting about how bad water level's are in California.... Nor Cal specifically. This sparked my curiosity so I jumped on the the State Parks website and started checking the water levels and conditions. Obviously most, if not all of the boat ramps are closed due to ice conditions but the water levels all seem real good. We've definitely had some drought conditions in Colorado in the past but I don't ever remember it being so bad we could see our lake beds, yikes!. I despise the winter and snow here in CO because it keeps us off the lake and the boat in storage but thank god for the rocky mountains and the snow, especially this year. Hopefully you California owners get some rain!

It rained all day yesterday and also last night. TImes of very heavy rain. THere was about 7 inches of rain in the foothills of Los Angeles and another 1 to 2 inches expected today. In the Big Bear Area another 1 to 2 ft of snow expected today. There was also snow in the Sierras. Maybe all this will start filling the local lakes and reservoirs.Comment

Ice skates! That's awesome! Some of our smaller private lakes are frozen solid like that, but not very many public body's of water are. Poor Texas as well...... ugh!Comment

I drove by possum kingdom lake while I was working down by there and it looks terrible. I have always wanted to take a lake trip there but think I will hold off.Comment

We are 16 inches ahead on snow and still have most of it on the ground. Our issue is going to be melt. We are running 20-30 degrees below average with no above freezing days in the 10 day. By the end of the 10 day our average high should be 40. So at some point the weather is going to turn fast and the melt is going to happen FAST, which is never a good thing when the ground is frozen. Going to equal major flooding.Comment

Speaking for the Pacific Northwest, western Canada and the eastern US stole a lot of our snow this year (again). Finally late February and early March have been a little snowier, but otherwise we're well below normal snowfall for this season. I've skied a total of two (2) days because the conditions haven't been good enough to bother. They're getting better now, so I'm hopeful we can crank in a few more before the seasons shift.
Not to fear, though. We get years like this occasionally. Then we get a HUGE year that makes up for it. So if you average over a few year window things level out to historical norms. But I am starting to notice that there is an inverse relationship between what the eastern US gets in winter and what we get that same season. I'm starting to call it "weather redistribution" in a nod to the "wealth redistribution" that DC likes to impose on the country.Comment

Our lake levels in NorCal started out low last year and ended up horribly low.
We went to Shasta early last season and it looked like a typical August.
Below are some photos of Oroville last September, they brought in some earth moving equipment to level out some lower parking and make new ramps that you cant see in the photos. You can see the upper water line.
I sure hope we get a lot more rain here soon!

We are over 21 feet low here on Lake Bridgeport. At our lakehouse, I have a trailer rigged with seats to pull with the 4 wheeler to take people and stuff down to the water it is so far from the dock. Come on El Nino, bring on the spring storms.Comment
