How much is too much teak oil on platform

I just want to start off saying thank you to all that recently gave input on the maintenance of their teak swim platforms. Particularly on the sanding. I pulled off the platform on our new 22v and lightly sanded it with 220 grit. I went through 2 1/2 sheets and could hardly believe how fast it loaded up with dust and started to glaze the sheet. I then oiled the bottom and top twice heavily with Star Brite and let sit for three days. When I run my finger on the top it is dry to the touch. The bottle says to apple two coats and wipe off any excess. My question is should I apply until the deck no longer soaks up the oil? Thanks for any info.

I dont think that you can put too much on.....i like to saturate it with oil and then oil every other time out.

Thanks for the info Condor, I thought the same but my wife wasn't sure if I should apply a third coat, she thought it was being a bit overkill. I should mention that I only sanded the top because it was a bit rough.

Condor86 is right. Just lather it on...as much as it will take. Letting it soak is a good idea.

You can get enough on there that it satuates and becomes slick. Not really a problem once you get it wet. You might stain your cover though.

On our new boats we try to get at least three coats on the platform before it goes out the door. Never seen a platform with too much oil, it always seems to soak in.

                  teak oil

i really like the starbrite Tropical Teak Oil Sealer. It is expensive but worth it IMO. It seems to last for months. For just oil I like the Amazon Golden. If your teak is black or silver from lack of care, then use Comet and a scrub brush to get the black and silver off. It works quicker than sandpaper. Then oil or seal. the Starbrite is not a varnish but a polymer sealer.
