WABoating, what engine is in your boat? I wonder if that is the same setup as the 2009 Im looking at with the 343.

I have the PCM EX343 with CAT exhaust. Looking in the Tige manuals, my cooling plumbing is standard for this engine. I've seen various other arrangements too, but this one makes a lot of sense because it minimizes hose lengths; once the incoming water gets up to the raw water pump it stays up in the engine. If you wanted the pump upstream of the transmission cooler, you'd either need much longer hoses from the raw water pump to the transmission cooler or you'd have to relocate the transmission cooler and then have longer hoses between it and the transmission (and thus more transmission fluid).

My arrangement pulls the coolest water into the v-drive first, then the transmission, then the (presumably hotter) engine, and finally the (definitely hot) exhaust, before exiting the boat. Makes sense to me.

I guess after the sea trial I will be convinced about the motor and trans being OK or not. Anything in this area I should look for? Were there any common issues for this model year? Obvi Im going to look for leaks and the obvious stuff after our run.

All in all I dont know of a cleaner 2009 so it might be worth the extra money IMO. Plus is there even a better all around Tige then the 22ve that can throw a killer surf wave that can be had for 48k without it being high hours or not that great of shape? Any opinions on that?

I had a 2007 22VE. I loved it. It has well over 600 hours on it now and no issues. Just fluid changes and impeller changes as well as fuel filters. I sold it to a neighbor in the campground we go to every Summer.I now have a 2011 with the PCM EX343. It has over 260 trouble free hours. The easiest way to tell if your motor is a PCM or a MP is to look at where the oil filter is mounted. The PCM has a remote mount filter behind the motor.The MP has a filter mounted on the starboard side at the rear of the motor. The 2007 was a 340MP and the 2011 PCM is a EX343. I haven't heard of any issues with this motor,but would be most concerned with the quality of the fuel [water] in the tank of a boat that is seldom used.

The only thing I need to fix for the boat to be perfect is the steering cable...I know its a crappy job but Ill do it rather then pay someone. The wheel is hard to turn and I disconnected the rudder and it still is so Im thinking it has to be the cable.

Where is the best place to buy the cable? Should I get the exact lenght again? Better yet how do I know which one to get??

Without pictures, we won't believe you!!! Congrats on the new boat. I think skidim usually has good prices on steering cables. I think half the job is figuring out which one is compatible.

I know man, if I could figure out what cable to get Id be in great shape. From research it seams that a longer cable around 19' will be better then the 18'er that comes on it IF Im correct at all on the stock length.

But which cable? I dont see any part #s or Manufacturer, how do I know whats on the 2009 22ve?

Congrats on the new boat! I know there were some threads on steering cable replacement on here.It's best to see how it's routed and attach a wire to it when you pull it out so you can feed the new one back through with the wire.

k, so I could not stand not know what cable I needed because I want to replace ASAP...already have rear of boat taken apart since I was doing things back there today and mind as well leave it apart till I get the new cable in. I braved the cold and drove back to storage with a flash light and mirror to check for part numbers. I found where there WAS a part number on the cable but its not legible any more. I did see that it is a Telefelx system though, but still not sure which one! Plus now after reading more threads it seams I could use the 21'er since its an 09' but will that be to much? should I just get a 19' ?

Still wish I knew if there were dif Teleflex models...

I got the extreme version that was recommended on here. I have no idea what the difference is compared to the standard.

I think the teleflex numbers refer to extreme or standard and the length. So

The last two numbers are the length I don't know what specifies extreme vs regular. My replacement cable was a foot longer than the one that was previously installed and didn't seem to make a difference.

I would just get the extreme version.

It was a foot longer than the origonal. It does have a longer loop in the compartment in front of the helm but some plastic ties took care of that.

I used a small (1/8") rope taped to the rudder end to help pull the replacement cable. I didn't need to loosen/move the fuel tank nor did I have to increase the size of the hole it goes through in the front (both were something some said they had to do... maybe not on 22Ves though). I did have my son help pull the cable out and the new one back in (helps to giuide one end while pulling).

Like previously posted, search for the previous threads on it. And don't do what I did and forget to center the wheel vs. rudder before mounting it on the steering gear/shaft. I had to take it off, align the rudder, then wheel, then put it back on...

From what I remember it was more to the starboard side. It definitely needs to be on the size when it gets to the front. Boat is stored away so I can't check.

Just unhook the back, duct tape a rope to the end of it. Have someone pull it forward. Getting the end through the hole took some working but just man handle it (turn it, work it around). The do the same thing in reverse. Work the big end around as you get it through the hole while having someone lightly pull the rope...

On mine I noticed that one of the grab handles on the sides was loose. It took everything I could to reach the bolts (crawling from the back, reaching up from inside). Ended up with some nice fiberglass scratches but it can be done!

I've ordered a cable, emailed Tige with my HIN # and they told me what cable came in the boat from factory. So I then in turn ordered the upgraded Teleflex cable BUT 1' longer since some say that extra makes a dif on install.

I replaced the cable today. Took me 2 hours. Did not have to enlarge any holes. Steering feels like new!
