    No Maintenance since 2009...

Hello all! This will be my first post. I just sold my 2002 21i and am about to purchase a 2009 22ve. The boat looks mint, only 51.5 hours on it. The problem is it has had NO maintenance done its entire life. As in no oil changes, filters etc. I pulled the dip stick and the oil looks clean, but the owner admits he has never had any maint done to the boat and he is the first owner...I know all about regular maint and what should be done so this scares me a tad YET somehow Im not turned off by it. Its kinda nice to know no one has monkeyed around with the boat. He kept it stored in a heated shop with a heat lamp next to the motor every winter, hence no winterization. The block is fine.

What do yall think? Should I turn and run or pick up my diamond in the rough!

    Thanks!

I would buy it. But yes, I would expect it to be a good deal, enough to not make me worry about swapping the engine later if it ended up needing to be done. Which tower is on it? If it had one of the old Z towers, tell me where it is at and I would dream about taking it out from under you.

Well, based on engine hours, its just now due for an oil change. Im not a fan of leaving used oil in the crank case for layups, but its not like its going to rot the block in a season. Gas may be a little flat, when is the last time the boat was used? I wouldnt call this a case of abuse or neglect, just infrequent use.

Talltigeguy, shes alllll mine! Just was a lil worried about Zero maint done.

chpthril, he told me he took it out a grand total of ONE time last season.

He has never done one thing to it...like I said it scares me YET at the same time Im glad some one has not messed with it. I like wrenching on my own toys. So chpthril it has NEVER had an oil change but the oil looks used BUT clean. Should I be worried at all?

I would have at least been tempted to say that I did the 20 hour service. So the guy does get some points for honesty.

The break in oil is supposed to be changed at 20 hours, then every 50 hours after that. I would also drain the fuel tank and put some fuel treatment in the tank. Also replace the fuel filter to get rid of all contaminants. All that being said if the owner is asking below book on it it sounds like a steal.

Jump on it. One thing I'd do after getting it is to pull the spark plugs and put anti-seize on the threads and put back in (or use new plugs). Engines that have sat a lot seem to be more inclined to have rust on the plugs/threads. Not sure if it's condensation or from the water cooled exhaust manifolds. My statement is from boating in Michigan where they get used only a few months a year and sit a lot.

What would yall think a good price would be? It has all factory options except shower and heater. Boat looks new. Anyone want to post up a figure?

2009 should have AlphaZ tower but no TT. TT was first available on 2010 models.

There are 2 08's on OIB for 36 and 42K. Both are at dealers and above market price in my opinion. The 36K is close to value I think.

Considering its a private seller and they guy is openly telling you he hasn't taken care of it, I'd say 35K.

It probably sold for 60k or more when it was new if it was loaded.

For price, need to know how is the gel coat and interior? With trailer? If all mint, then I'd say closer to 40k.that

I think the '09 is a sweet spot. Alpha Z tower and the year before Tige Touch. I know that Tige Touch offers a lot of stuff, integration of info, but I keep boats a long time and that scares me a bit. A switch can be debugged. I don't mean to derail the thread and realize that many would disagree with my opinion. No worries...
