Welcome to the site. Post up some picks of your boat. As far as boards go I would look at boards from Walker Project, SoulCraft, Brigade, Doomswell to name a few. these will all be actual surf oriented and you being an ocean surfer like myself I think you would enjoy these. I would suggest a board around 4' 10" or 5' depending on the size and push of your wave. Check out Wake9.com and the reviews from the Polar Bear event where we had a lot of these boards there. Happy hunting

Really like the look and description of the phase5 trident. Any likes/dislikes?

I have ridden the Trident and thought it was ok for a skim style board trying to have a little surfy feel. Fun but if you like to do traditional ocean style bottom turns it won't hold good enough. But everyone has a different preference, and truly the best way is to try a board out.

started on a broadcast and grew tired of it quickly. bought a phase5 daniello pro back in '08 and it's been a great board. taught several on it and it still sees some time behind the boat today. have an IS 4-skim and it's a real fun board but slippery. not a board at all for new riders.
we are pretty much all surfstyle now and have a ronix, cwb and 2 soulcrafts that get the majority of the time behind the boat.

as mentioned, find a dealer that will let you demo some boards or a few people in the area that you can try out. that's the best way as mentioned by topaz.

Give the Squid a call! Maybe he and his family want to visit Mt. Rushmore and get in a surf session!
