or maybe the ford contour/jag.. had an old co-worker that had one. loved to look at him and say nice ford
it will be intersting to watch this line. the 20ft boat market is pretty crowded for a size that isn't the most popular. I'm guessing it'll start up with a 20ft, then a 22ft and prices will start to creep up into the mid60's. think axis only their line had a hardcore wake to offer. I could see this being ok at most and not great at anything other than having the mastercraft name on the side2012 22ve.. RIP 4/17

Tower is ugly as hell. I agree, at 50k they will sell tons of them.
Like the car companies a few years back, they're biggest competition was themselves. Off lease cars, company cars, rental units, all used for less than a year with less than 20k miles on them. Customers could save 5-8k by buying a used car rather than the same model new.
How much depreciation comes off a brand new boat the first year? You could easily save 40-50k if you buy a one year old x-star.
I'm not sure about putting the MC logo on the side of the boat though. Its like apple producing a "cheap" iPhone

Mastercraft is owned by Pouschine Cook Capital Management, LLC, a private equity firm. PE's have just one objective......produce a 15% (or higher) return for their investors. Thus, MC has to sell more boats and continually adapt to the market place to keep the money stream flowing. This boat will not be about quality, it will be about profits.

For whatever reason Mastercraft owners think the boat makes them members of an elitist club. Similar to Benz and BMW owners. So for that reason alone, that people can enter the club for 50K, they will sell a bunch. Then those new Mastercraft owners, with their 50K boat, will be looking down their noses at other brand owners with far superior and more expensive boats. If it makes them feel better go for it! It seems tough to get a boat into the 50K range. Its tough to keep R20's under 50K. We like the R20 but when we priced it again the RZR optioned how we wanted it the price was around 5K difference. No brainer at that point to go with the RZR. I actually prefer the analog gauges and switches!
Tony and Tige, I know you guys follow this. How about a 50K love child between the RZR and R20. Basic features on the R20 with an Alpha Z tower??
I owned Mastercraft years ago, but don't any longer because I feel like as boats have progressed they have failed to keep up. I think they are relying on the name and their reputation and that is fading. They need to do something and this might be it. Their numbers have slipped significantly over the last 5 years. By sales numbers I don't believe they are even in the "big 3" any longer.

At the end of the day, I would be willing to put $$ on the fact that the marketing is all directed at the $50K but is truly the starting point. Let's face it, Tige does it with their boats, even the tower is an option that I am guessing almost all buyers add. It's just like the Auto mfgs - the low lease dollar cars are pretty much no options, go in to do a lease and add a few options and the payment and price of the car jump up dramatically. It's a marketing thing to get people into the door of the MC dealers and I would say, a damn good one. Most people think they cannot afford a MC and some dealers make you feel like that (part of why we own a Tige, the dealer treated us like people, not a pocketbook) and now buyers that are really looking at entry priced boats (moomba, axis...) may walk in the door of the MC dealer that they otherwise would pass by. If MC can actually sell a boat with a tower, basic sound system, enough balast to make a decent surf and wakeboard wake for $50K, they will for sure have a winner. Again, my guess is it will be "starting at"."I think I am pretty smart for an idiot"

Boats are pretty simple things when you break them down, so there is something to be said for a quality V drive without all the features that have been driving up the cost over the last 10 or so years. When you think about the memories that are made on the water, none of them have anything to do with touch screens or plush detail in the upholstery. Yes, these are nice things but getting your family and friends on the water, shredding your face off and making memories is what counts. That is why the R20 (among others) is such a great value and why I'm excited about this new MC. Whatever gets you into an inboard.

We need to remember that MC tried this before with the X2. Wasn't it first advertised to be 45K or so about 8-9 years ago? But then when people complained that the trailer was only single axle, and various amenities needed to be added, you suddenly had a 65K boat. People just don't want a high end starter boat. I would much rather have a well equipped new Moomba, than a stripped MC, tige, or any other brand. But I would also rather have a couple year old Tige, than a new budget minded boat.
I am predicting this is just a sales gimmick. Can you say 'cash rewards'.Be excellent to one another.

" However, the NXT is unique in its design, will have all new features including a new tower and it will be available with colors that no other MasterCraft series boat will offer."

"An NXT, with standard equipment, starts at a little south of $50,000. "
Read…$49,999($1 is a little). Standard equipment meaning base no option. Thats also no freight, prep, or anything else. Plus I'm guessing to advertise that less than 50K price a trailer is not included in the price. I will bet money no one will ever see one of those boats priced at south of 50K!!! I know at our, 5% off MSRP is a smoking' deal, local Mastercraft dealer you won't!!

Once you're a boat owner you don't usually stop owning a boat for a long time. Chances are that after they've owned that entry model for a while and start thinking about spending money on adding the fancy features they've seen in other people's boats, they'll give serious consideration to just "upgrading" to a more fully featured new boat instead. They're already hooked on the lifestyle, and they have familiarity with the brand so they're likely to give their first look at the dealer they already know. POOF - now you're selling a midrange boat to an existing customer. And that entry boat goes on to spin up another family.

Does anyone remember the Malibu Tantrum (I think) in the mid 90's? They were going to sell a Malibu for the price of a family runabout. It flopped because it was too stripped. Some people qualify themselves by the brand of boat they choose. Who knows it will be interesting to watch."Half the money I spend on advertising is wasted....the problem is I don't know which half."
