RZ4 2013 owner! Guys' help me get the perfect wave, im close!

OK guys, i read online forums all the time and nobody has a true answer for dialing in a gnarly wave for the 2013 RZ4! normally, its just myself & and a my buddy (driving or Vice-verse). i have the pcm ex 343 w/ the pro-ballast factory system. pros; the fill & drain times are exceptional, the wave is very surf-able considering we surf starboard side which is the driver side. Cons: i didn't get the VX surf plate when i ordered this boat because i didnt think i'd enjoy surfing so much! i decided to try surfing because we got sick of getting up early to get smooth water for wake boarding & then near mid day having to stop & wait for the the Jet skiis/ tubers/ general traffic to die down and continue boarding. So, here is what I am working with after research and some dialing of the wave. 25% full on rear port side/ 0% front port side. 100% full rear starboard/ just a little bit less than 25% full front starboard. Mph is about 8.8-9.5 ( depends on fuel level). taps on 3-4. Now, i want a wave that i can surf way back from the boat without adding more persons. you guys need to tell what needs to be done by process. do i want the VX plate? its a nice chunk of $ and if its a substantial difference then yes i'll order one. or for 560$ i can just swap my factory rear locker starboard bag (350lb ) for a aftermarket replacement bag ( 930lb ). which is the W005-stb. I dont mind spending the money to have both as long its definitly going to satisy me and give all of us Tige owners something to look at! sure the Z3 is the boat i need but ive had (2) 24ve' & the pickle foot (RZ) just takes the cake with the extra room as well as head turning factor. here are some pics as of now! thanks please any info helps! photo(1).JPGphoto(1).jpgphoto(2).jpgphoto(3).JPG

You need some(read:way more) weight!! We surfed with a guy this summer while on vacation with an RZ4 and that wave is money. Huge and with tons of push and plenty long. I had to dial my riding back because it had so much more push than my RZr. Front weight almost always equals length. You should be running your front full both side regardless of what side you are surfing. For an RZ4 your wave is TINY!! My RZr wave is way bigger. If your going to go bigger bags skip the W005 and go with the 12803/12804. Those are 1130/ 1325 lb bags made for the Z3/ RZ4. VX isn't going to add any size it will just smooth it out. If anything it requires more weight because it lengthens the water line of the boat. I would get that boat weighted down properly before you made a choice about the VX. Guys are reporting $3K plus for the retrofit so its a lot more than changing out the sacs.

The RZ boats have been producing s stellar surf wave long before the VX came along. So I would definitely add more weight to the surf side and bow, before purchasing the VX. Also, speeding up a tad will lengthen the pocket.

A 1200-1300 lb custom bag is the way to go, as opposed to the Fly High W005. Theres more then one source that offers one too.

Here is the basic formula for dialing in that perfect wave in a Tige. There are 3 variable that you can control:

          Weight
          Speed
          Taps

I would start off getting the biggest bags you can for the rear lockers. The Enzo is a good start but there are some great custom sacks that will fill every nook and cranny. I would fill that rear surf corner up and you front ballast on both sides and start playing around with speed.

To play with your speed variables I would set taps at 3 and leave it until you find a good speed. I would start at 10mph and slowly increase the speed up to 13.5 in .2 increments and take note of the speed you liked best. As you go faster, the wave lengthens out for a longer pocket but the height comes down a little. I'm going to predict your going to like something in the 11-11.5 range.

Last thing I would mess with would be taps. The higher the number the taller the wave, to a point, then it gets washed out. As you play around with taps try to keep the speed constant so you can see the affect it has on the wave. When you get a nice high wave with taps, say around a 5-6 setting, you may want to go back and slightly adjust the speed. For example, if you find you like 11.4mph and you like the shape and height at taps 5, you may loose some of the length of the wave, in which case you might want to bump the speed up to 11.6 or 11.8. Just remember that each day will be slightly different for your perfect wave based on the amount of fuel and people on the boat, as well as wind and current. When you dial in the wave, remember those settings as a base line to dial in from, not an end-all perfect setting. Each time you go out you may want to speed up or down slightly and add or subtract a touch of taps. It will take 1-2 trips to get that perfect set up and be able to dial it again using your last setup as a starting point and adjusting slightly from there.

Congrats on the boat and have fun! That's what it's all about.

            EDIT: Don't have a RZ4 but I have a 24 ft tige.

At first, I tried to save a couple bucks running an 1,100 lb sac in the rear of my 24V and 500 under the seat (filled it was less than an enzo sac, call it 1300 lbs).

Then I saw how much better the wave gets with weight and bought custom sacs from MLA (Chpthril) that maximized the weight in my rear compartment and under seat.

So basically trying to save money ended up costing me more.

If you really enjoy surfing, I would recommend going with a custom sac that will maximize the weight back there. I have a 24 ft boat and my rear sacs spec out at 1800+ lbs. No idea what actually fits in it.

You will be amazed how much better a few hundred lbs makes on the big boats.

Just another example of how these big boats can take a lot of ballast.

Thanks everyone, all the input has helped my understanding of push, i understand my boat creates a ton if set up properly. now, we have prolly surfed 35hrs each on cheap hyperlite broadcast. apparently the right board is an issue as well! need a board thats faster, lil looser, and carv out some preferrably will fit between 155-190lbs... last question is i simply want to unhook my factory bag and put the biggest custom sac i can fit in its place, whille still using my tige touch no additonal pumps n bs... so, now i need you guys to toss out some LINKS to boards you'd recommend & the same for the sac! thanks!

                  I have an 11 RZ4.

If I have three people in the boat I fill the rear rider side full and have both people sit as far back on the corner as possible.

If I have more than three I continue to line them up along rider side towards the front. Only in a very full boat will I fill the front to lengthen it out.

If it is just driver and rider I will fill the rear rider bag full and also fill an 800lb sac across the back seat positioned towards the rider side.

Taps set low 2-3 and 11 MPH give or take a half mile depending on weight.

                  Cheers,
