Newbie in the market and looking at a 20V

    Hi Tige' fans,

I am a brand newbie and in the market for a v-drive. In my travels I have stumbled upon a 04 20V that I am considering. I have been around boats all my life, I am 45 now, and am looking at this particular boat to keep the kids happy. I spent the weekend in my mates RZ2 and walked away impressed which is how I stumbled upon this 20V. It's in my budget, has a 6.2 black scorpion M/C and looks outwardly neat. The trouble is the interior is trashed. Basically cosmetic and ripped vinyl and will need total replacement. My question for the forum is: are there any issues with this model? Hull, Gel, Gauges, steering. Anything at all which may help me make up my mind would be appreciated. I need to travel 5 hrs to have a look at it, so if I get red flags I wont bother. I have found other forums very helpful with advice so I was hoping you guys may be in a position to do the same.

I'd spend time on onlyinboards, boattrader and use searchtempest to look across craigslists near you.

Take your time. Find the right one...

I bought a 2004 24V about a year ago. Nearly every Tige from that vintage I checked out that had the original vinyl had seams that were separating.

The vinyl on my boat is original and all the back seating area will have to be replaced this off season.

Even with light usage, I wouldn't be surprised at all that the vinyl needs replacing from that year. It does tell you that the previous owner did not repair it as it wore out. I have had a few issues with my boat due to neglect. However, I think the price I paid was reflective of condition.

        Good luck in your search.

          Hi all,

Thanks for the replies. I should have specified more clearly when I said the interior was trashed, and the issue is the seams on the upholstery as specified in this reply. I am glad to see it wasn't restricted to australian delivered boats and it is my understanding that the vinyl was poor on 04's. Thanks for the feedback so far, keep it coming. What I am really looking for is specific issues with specific models. I know the vinyl is one, but what about delamination, vibration, equipment failure, poor finish etc ???

I remember when I was researching that there were tower issues some years. I do not remember which years. Does anyone know the Metcraft (Metcrap.....Tower of Death.... etc) time was? Was it on a 20V?

My boat is a different model (same year), I am very happy with the boat overall (my previous boat was a Bayliner and I loved that boat too so maybe my standards are low). I really have no complaints.

If the 20V has a sloped transom, some don't like that. It hasn't been a big deal for me but I can understand why others don't like it. On my 24V the bow cushions are huge and a pain to lift. They really need gas shocks to support. I ended up filling the bow with ballast, so I basically almost never lift the front cushions anyway. I bet on the 20V it would be less of an issue.

I think all the old Tige "V"'s have their set of fans.

            LONG LIVE THE "V"!

Have decided to rule it out. Turns out she is an orphan and despite the genetic upholstery issues she has been unloved
