Do you put the nosel all the way in??. I put it all the way down to stop the spray and or over flow.

My 05 24V does the same thing. I pump it fast until it seems that I am getting close to the top. Then I slow it down and SOMETIMES it won't come out all over the side of the boat. I think it has something to do with the angle of the hose. I always put the hose in as far as it will go.

I wonder if it would actually be better to have it out an inch or so...

That's happened on every boat I've ever owned. The problem is that the gas tanks are very large and shallow and the hose from the gas cap to the tank tends to be pretty shallow.

Having the nozzle in as far as it goes helps, but since it's on the side, it won't stay there by itself. In order to fix it, they really need to have an indented fuel intake or put it somewhere where the gas cap is horizontal instead of vertical.

I guess I'm unusual. I just barely put the nozzle in the filler tube. It seems to work better for me.

The best way is to stand there and listen though, when it sounds like it is filling up the tube click the gas nozzle off.

You can also hear some hissing from the vent too.

I've had this same issue on many boats.

i hate it when it does that! makes a mess, and gas isnt cheap these days just to let it spray all over the place! i put it in all the way and stand there and hold the handle up. that seems to work best for me. i do listen also.

Try a different gas station. Sounds stupid but I go to the one that works with my boat. I can stick the nozzle all the way in, flip the the little lock thingy, and walk away. It clicks off when it's perfectly full meaning it doesn't get so full that it pushes fuel out the overflow and never shoots out the intake hose. Out of the seven gas stations in my area, this is the only one that works perfectly. The rest do one or some or all of the horrible things described here. It may not be the cheapest gas but, its worth it to me.

PS- The ones without the little rubber "bellows" type boot around them seem to work best.

                Listen for the gurgle

I've had that happen once or twice. Id rather not clean that crap up, so I just stand there and listen for it to gurgle and shut it off. Its the only thing that I have found that works every time.
