tige speedset issues does it need flashed or replaced

my 07 22ve started out giving me issues when throwing the throttle would engage in gear but wouldn't move after talking to bill at wws he sent me a new potentiometer behind the throttle and it fixed the problem. now i am have a brief intermittent hesitation or cutout of engine at full throttle and the cruise won't set above 28mph. The engine seems like it has bad gas but i have replaced fuel filter and have ran several tanks of fuel in it since i've owned it. I bought the boat with only 100hrs but it wasn't well taken care of and probably never dried out before it was tarped by previous owner as i'm sure the moisture over the years is what is giving me the issues. after talking to a shop about the cruise they say to replace the dash gauge but i have read on here that it is possible to send to marine power to have them "flashed" which i'm sure is a lot cheaper than the $900 new one from tige. also i'm thinking the "flashing" of the ecm will take care of my throttle cutout?? There are days where the boat will only cruise around 38mph and sometimes will cruise full speed 42mph which is what most the tige boats will do speed wise. any tips or contact info for marine power if anyone has had these issues and sent there ecm or cruise off would be great or maybe i'm leaning in the wrong direction and it is something else. I did call tige and they said to check all grounds for throttle etc and i did and don't think this is the issue.

To start with, the gauge does not effect how the engine runs, but the how the engine runs can effect how the Tige Speed-Set cruise operates. The Engine ECM also handles the Speed-Set operation, via commands by from the Speed-Set touch pad. If the engine acts up with the cruise off, its nothing to do with the speed-set touch pad.

Did this current driveability issue pop up right after the throttle position POT was replaced? If so, I would suggest having the engine data scanned to see what the POT is reading at both idle and WOT.

Was there water or any other junk in the fuel/water sep filter when you replaced it? Probably not spoiled gas, but could easily be excessive water or phase-separated ethanol fuel.

The boat was acting up from day one when I purchased it would run funny almost sputtering for the first 10 min of initial startup then would go away so I assumed filter had water when I replaced it it looked good. I have put 20 hrs on it this summer and several tanks of fuel w some treatment in it also. It's not a constant sputter or engine cutout just intermittent and is barely noticeable to most ppl but I can feel it and hear it happening. It improved after the potentiometer was replaced but seems like there is some kind of electrical issue yet and the shop I spoke to thinks the speed set dash buttons are causing the act up issues I'm having as it won't set last 28 mph and I didn't have any issues first time or so out when I didn't use cruise. Only seems to pop up if cruise has been used that day. I will definitely have to get scanned it just my closest Tige dealer is 5 hrs away. We have a new Tige dealer that just opened and hour from me but I think they are still being trained so will have to call see what their thoughts are also.

Just a comment about flashing the ECM to fix something. Unless you are updating the SW/Cal to a later (or different) version than flashing it will just but the same set of 1's and 0's into the ROM and it will run the same (SW doesn't go bad). Sometime there is an update to fix a problem but I don't think that is your issue.

Money that sounds like the same thing mine is doing. It is just real sporadic when i use the cruise so i'm really thinking the issues i'm having with the boat not running properly all the time are speedset related issues. I have read several of the old forums about flashing it and i'm leaning towards getting it done before i spend $900 on a new one. Do you remember the cost involved to flash it??Where did you send the speedset off to? Was there a number to the place or website?

My 20V was under warranty at the time so Dealer sent to Marine Power to get the flash done. Of course it got misplaced so I had to chase it down and have sent to my house since dealer drooped Tige back then. I would contact your local Tige dealer. If not local see if Tige in Abilene can coordinate with Marine power to flash computer. It is ; screws and I think 3 electrical connections. Easy to do if Marine Power still Services.

If surging only occurred with speed-set on and engaged the flash fixed mine and others who had 5.7L MP motor. Worked great after being flashed.

            Good Luck. Happy Holidays.

money just got off the phone with eddie at marine power and he was very helpful. He thinks there are some updates on this ecm he can do that will correct the problem by flashing it. He won't know exactly the issue until he receives the ecm so i sent it off in hopes it will correct the issues i'm having. He also is doing out of the kindness of his heart and company. Really says a lot about marine power as a company!! Will post back later the results or findings. Bad thing is I won't know for sure if problems are resolved until April when our lakes thaw enough to use boat.

You could take Spring vacation down to Bullshoals, Tablerock or Beaver lake in March and test the ECM flash and catch the spring run of White bass. You could also get a dry suit and get an early start on the season

Good luck. ECM flash fixed mine.

money had the boat out yesterday for the first time since having marine power flash the ecm and the speedset worked flawlessly and would set to speed instantly each time. It also seemed to come out of the hole faster when getting me up on my slalom ski versus last year pre flash when the boat seemed to struggle each time. At this time the issues I was having seem to be gone will know more as lake season goes on. Again thanks for you advice!!
