agreed I drove a 14 G23 with the 450 and the 550 and I would get the 550...its so quiet, and smooth. The 550 is a beast. The 6.0 is an old school motor, the 6.2 is a Gen 4 motor with much better engine technology. GM did a good job on the LS3/LSA/LS9 engine.

I am the guy who has been quoting "I've never wished for a smaller engine". However, I've got to say I don't know what problem we're trying to solve here with 550 horsepower. I have one of the larger boats on this forum (24Ve) and believe I have one of the largest ballast systems, yet my puny little EX343 does just great. I don't sit at the helm saying to myself "Boy, I wouldn't be having this problem with a bigger engine".

The one and only time I've ever felt like the engine might be holding me back was when Ewok and I were setting up the U-shaped dual wave with our two boats. One time we had his boat be the lead vessel and I drove up to match his speed. I had a bit of trouble getting over/through the enormous wake he was throwing off, it took a few more seconds than driving on flat glass. Maybe a few more horsepower would have helped, maybe not.

Don't get me wrong. If Tige offers me a free 550 upgrade in the next boat they ship to me, I won't argue. But I have yet to feel a NEED for it, even in a 24 footer with thousands of pounds of ballast and 16 people on board. Not arguing, just relating my experiences.

if all you do is primarilly surf then small motors can work without issue. My buddy had a 2013 G23 with the 409 in it, and it did great with 2850lbs of ballast and 8 people in the boat while surfing, but when you wanted to wakeboard it was a different story, it took forever to get on plane. He just traded up to a 2014 G23 with a 550 in it. We had 14 people in the boat with the stock 2850lbs of ballast and an extra 750 in each rear corner and the 6.2l supersharged pulled us out of the hole like a champ and got us on plane without issue. The torque curve on the LSA helps pretty good to get out of the hole

We wakeboard too (and ski, and tube, and kneeboard) but admittedly we are not as aggressive with the boarding as others. Thanks for the clarification!

I assure you are not running at 10k average effective elevation either are you? And Your not trying to move a 10,000lbs boat to 28mph either are you? If what you do mostly is wakesurf or wakeboard with little ballast your fine.. Anything more then little engines SUCK flat out. 90% of the wakeboarders behind my boat do not want to ride the Bunny slope as they call it lol

Yes, in extreme conditions such as elevation I totally agree that stepping up to a larger engine is warranted. And I've said so, here, on several occasions.

We are at ~2500 MSL so elevation isn't a huge issue. However, we likely do approach 10K pounds once in a while. ~4600 dry boat, plus rather enormous fat sacs, plus fuel, plus ~16 adults... it does add up!
