Its good to be friends with Boatwakes and live within a hour of him..... My family and my boat are really grateful!
I had trouble with my starter and we were talking about the symptoms and had already eliminated the relay being the problem. He listened to a video of my starter and diagnosed a potential ring gear failure..... its never good when you get an email from Boatwakes and the first thing you see is "you aren't going to want to hear this but......."
Well, after following his detailed instructions, sure enough the teeth on my ring gear were worn down and my fly wheel was pretty corroded. Do you want to know what can happen when you store the boat with 3 inches of water in the bilge? You could see the water line on the ring gear. I knew about the water in the bilge from the survey I had done but so far that's the first trouble I have had as a result of the water.
Anyway, Boatwakes had me bring the boat to his house, he double checked my ring gear, and we pulled the motor. By we, I mean he pulled the motor and I did my best to follow directions and not slow him down too much! He is helping replace the ring gear and clean up the fly wheel.
PCM located my starter on the block with the bolt heads blocked by the exhaust (basically inaccessible, one of my calls to Cory was how in the heck do you get that thing off without removing the exhaust), so the hope is Boatwakes can move it to a top mount starter. My transmission cooler (I think it was the trans cooler) was also in a crappy place and has collected some nice lake gunk so he is relocating that as well for easy access.
Gotta love the Tige family! Cory is helping get me back on the water with a more user friendly motor and he and his family were awesome! Hope we can make a family trip with them soon. Plus next year, my family HAS to make the reunion!
Thanks again Boatwakes
