I hope someone told Ford so they can take this off of their website...

Everyone on this forum is so high strung lately! Take a chill pill folks! Let's hope that we ALL benefit from this new Ford engine that Indmar is going to put out. Innovation drives competition as we are seeing with the G23/ASR debate. When one company steps up their game, the other companies have no choice. Maybe PCM steps up and puts out all LSx based engines once Ford's hit the market or maybe Marine Power/PCM/Ilmor/? come out with diesel options to compete. We don't even have the power #'s yet, maybe it will be exactly what we need. RELAX folks! I know we've all got the winter blues but not worth this crazy attack each other kind of discussions that have been going on.

I'm gonna throw out a point of confusion on my part. I think we've established that this was all created by an upcoming supply shortage with the 350 and PCM's lack of a future strategy. I remember reading somewhere that during the negotiations, GM wanted to move to and did offer a new marine application in the 6.2 and a smaller displacement than the 350 base block to Tige and other manufacturers but they were not interested. There's gotta be another piece of the puzzle that facilitated the shift from GM to Ford since the displacements of the motors are the same. Would be interesting to know what that piece was.

^ I'll take a stab at that one.. price? ford subsidized the cost of the engine for a few years at a lower pricepoint to get them out in the market then price slowly creeps up?

I heard/read somewhere that even Mercruiser was starting to stray way from the GM blocks as well?

It sure seems like every thread turns into my **** is bigger than yours and what I have is good and what you have is bad. Used to be able to have discussions and disagreements without the personal chit. Seems like a lot of the reasonable people are staying away. Maybe they are worried about running up their post counts? Seems like these threads may as we'll be the former PW thread

I'd be curious to know if Ford approached Indmar, or Indmar approached Ford.

GM has been churning off that Gen 1e small block forever, yet now they decided to stop. I find that kind of curious. People are still buying lots of them (probably more of them than the LS options), yet they STILL decided to stop building them. The likely reason is that there is no money in it. So if Ford now swoops in to pick up that slack with a new engine, how are they going to make money? They have engineering cost PLUS production cost.

I'm just speculating, but I bet the real money on these engines is made by Indmar, PCM, Ilmor etc and not GM or Ford. That tells me a price decrease is not too likely going forward as Ford will have to recoup their engineering costs.

You never know, GM could also have shut down this line due to their restructuring efforts, union problems, or even just a plant they no longer want anything to do with. If there is one thing I've learned about GM it is that they cancel things with very little consideration of how popular they are (i.e. EV1, Avalanche, Hummer, Camaro) There are other reasons at play.

Feel free to delete that previous post. I'd hate for my post count to increase with out adding value to this thread.

I have been told by GM powertrain engineers that GM seems to want to get out of the marine industry. They said the volume of engines sold are low, and the engines are all of the older tech engines which they would like to discontinue those options. I dont see an issue with the 6.2L ford engine in the Indmar boats. I applaud there innovation. I do think if I had to choose I would pick a LS3 vs the 6.2L though given how they perform in the automotive industry. With that being said the 6.2L is a very detuned engine and is very capable of much higher HP and Tq. Diesel will not happen....it sucks because it would be cool but I dont see it ever happening in the tow boat industry. The engines are 2x as much as a gas option and the exhaust after treatment system could be another $5k on top of the diesel premium.

I could see at some point(if the EPA cracks down on fuel consumption) that there will be more technology in the transmissions for these boats.
