    Stainless Bow Protector

Hey! Has anyone used the stainless steel bow protector? If you have put it on your boat, has it helped or is it worth it? I am going to have to have some fiberglass done to my bow because the trailer manufacturer put the bow roller bracket on upside down causing the metal bracket to gouge the bow of my boat pretty bad. The fiberglass repair shop doing the work brought the bow protector to my attention, so I was just wondering if anyone has used them.

I also gouged up my bow pretty bad this summer. I wonder if my bow roller is upside down.

As you can see by the roller pic. The hole for the bolt is on the lower side of the flat bar bracket. It is supposed to be on the top side so that there is not the exposure to the metal bar.

Looks to me like you need more than just a protector. You need to change your setup...maybe drill a new hole or grind away the support bar. That's crazy.

I know how it needs to be fixed as I posted above the pictures. The trailer manufacturer is supposed to be making a new bracket. I am wanting to know if the bow protector is worth it for normal wear.

Sorry, I didnt mean to make seem like you didnt know what you are doing. I have thought doing the same thing with the protector but only because my cover chews my bow a little on the point. My roller hasnt caused any damage. If it were me, I would wait until you get the roller bracket fixed and see if that solves all your reasons for looking at the bow protector. Just my opinion but those protectors look like crap and what happens when it gets dinged up and you have to replace it? Dont know but that has been my concern. I dont know of anyone who has one so I could be off.

Once you have a properly installed roller, you should not get gouges or deep scratches. You will probably get hazing and light scratches where the roller rubs hard on the gel coat (we do). I just polish the heck out of that spot at the end of the seasons (or use a little rubbing compound then polish).

Yeah I think I am going opt out of the bow protector once everything is fixed.
