    what to look out for in a 04 Tige22v

    I'm new to the boating world, but love surfing. I'm looking at 04Tige 22V with 430 hours on it. It's what fits my budget. What should I be looking out for? Any major problems at 430 hours? Will be mainly using boat for wakesurfing.. Thanks

    It totally depends on the particular boat and how it was taken care of. I have seen mint condition boats with 750 hours that looked like they came off the show room floor. I have also seen boats with less than 200 hours that were trashed. Some can depend on your location and some of maintenance and care. If you are new to the boating world you would be silly not to get the boat inspected by a professional. Either a neutral dealer(not the one selling it if its at a dealer) or an independent marine surveyor. It is also a good idea to look at service records. Is this the original owner?

    Whats the price? Condition? Options? If your going to surf ballast and speed control are needed.

      There asking $29,000 and yes it's at a dealer, also it was a one owner boat. Thanks for the info

        I have a 2004 24V and love it. I ended up paying for a marine survey (about $500 but if its near majory city I have heard you can get them for $300 ish). For me, the marine survey was worthwhile (especially since I was buying sight unseen, out of state). I don't think 400 hours on a 2004 is that much. You can PM me and I can forward you my survey if you want to see what one looks like. For me, the $500 was well worth it for the peace of mind.

        The 22V is a surf beast! I loved Dave's (Topaz Surfer) wave at Polar Bear. Check out this thread:

        Make sure the TAPS works. A couple of them I looked at the TAPS was not functioning.

        The factory ballast system on the 2004's stinks. Its basically a transom thru hull to a pvc emergency shutoff to a pvc manifold with 4 500 gph pumps. There are 4 large hard tanks that take up valuable storage space at all times. The ONLY thing I kept from my factory ballast system is the switches (which looks great). So if there is no factory ballast, I don't see that as a bad thing.



        There were a couple motor options I think for that year. Unless you are trying to wakeboard with tons of weight, I don't think you need a big motor (the 6L). You may need to upgrade the prop for surfing if you are planning on weighting it heavy.

        I think the big issue to check on that year might be the tower? Hopefully someone else will chime in but I remember hearing about the "tower of death/ metcrap" on here but I don't know what years it was on the boat. Mine did not have it but I didn't learn about that tower until after I bought my boat.

        If you want to surf, it would be hard to do much better than a 22V! I really love my 2004 24V and its very similar. Its on of the best waves I have been on! Good luck!

          Price is OK(not great, especially considering the time of year) depending on condition and options. There are a couple for sale on the web for that kind of money with towers, cruise, ballast, etc.

          What options does the boat have for 29K? Is the dealer offering any kind of warranty?

            I agree with getting a professional opinion like a marine survey. When spending that kind of $$, a few hundred bucks will go a long way for insurance and peace of mind. It’s not fool proof, but is a good hedge for getting a good buy. Many times a compression test is not part of the inspection. I would seriously consider this and having the engine computer read to confirm # hours and any error codes, hrs. by RPM, etc. The engine computer will give you a lot of good info. Here is a standard list of questions I used when buying a used boat that you can consider.

            Are you the original owner?
            Has the boat needed any mechanical work.
            Has it been in salt water?
            Any interior damage?
            Any hull damage?
            Anything not working?
            Does it have factory ballast?
            How does the boat perform with the engine? Top speed?
            Original Prop?
            Tell me about the ballast system(if applies). Who installed, how plumbed, any leaks or problems?
            Store in slip or trailered?
            What kind of speed control,Perfect pass?
            Is there heat or hot h2o
            Do you have service records?
            Who did the maintenance/winterization?
            What is included with the boat(life jackets, anchor, etc.)
            Why selling?
            Condition of trailer?
            Where were the bearings serviced last?
            How are the tires?
            Trailer rust/damage
            Do all trailer light work?
