    Newbie Need Some Advise

    Hey Guys. New to the world of boating and looking to pick up my first. Always been big into the automotive category but relocated to a new job recently and bought a place near the lake and decided its about time for a change of pace. I realize there is a lot I don't know here and would appreciate a little advice.

    Found a guy local to me selling a 2001 Tige 2300v (or 23v as he called it). Has a 350 engine with 300 hours. He's asking $18500. Claims its a little rough around the edges with regards to interior.

    Going to look at/test drive it later today and was wondering what I should be looking for in term of issues. After searching around the interwebs, this seems to be a good deal and comes with the trailer in the photos. Opinions/Advice? Also I can't seem to find another boat with the same tower. Aftermarket?

    Get a marine inspection done. I got crushed on a used boat by taking the owner and dealers word on a few things... Learn from my mistake my friend, it will be money well spent.

    Other than that, have fun. It was the best summer that my family and I have ever had!

      From those pics I would say 2002 2300V limited. The second captains chair gives the limited away. That is the same dash and gauge cluster we have and I am pretty they changed from 01 to 02. That is definitely not the stock tower. Not sure what year they started using that tower. 300 hours is nothing for that boat. We are pushing 600 and that's even a little low for that age of boat. What options does it have? That is a great price if the motor is in good condition. Definitely get it checked out by a third party. Good luck and welcome to the site.

        Not really sure what options it had because I really don't know what I was looking for. Ha

        Interior was a bit rough but nothing a few replacement parts and new upholstery couldn't fix. My main concern driving it was the TAPS system. The gauge looked to be frozen and pressing the rocker on the throttle (assuming that's where the control is) I didn't see any difference in the wake or feel any difference.

        Also saw a bit of rust on the head covers of the engine. It ran very smoothly though and transmission and steering were smooth as well.

          1. 300 hours is not that many hours at all.
          2. Interiors are expensive
          3. The exterior can be easily buffed out at home. Just takes a buffer and some hours.
          4. If you are serious, take it out on the lake with someone that has had a boat, then take it to a dealer or repair shop that knows those boats.

            If the TAPs guage didnt move and you didnt see any change to wake, it could be a few different things all pretty easy to fix. 1, relay pack is bad, 2 wires from the relay pack to the switch in the throttle handle is bad, 3 pump is bad (very unlikely). If it would have affected the wake then its a guage problem which can be 1, wires from guage to the ram in the back, or the sensors in the ram itself are bad.
            Most Taps isses are pretty easy to resolve adn track down.

            Interior and mechanical would be on the top of my worry list. As others have said thats the most expensive part. Most exterior stuff nothing a good buffer cant handle long as no deep scratches, chips or blisters in the gel coat those take more time to get out or fix. Teak is really easy to recondition.

              Take the boat to Gunnells Marine there in greenwood, and have them give the boat a going-through. They are a Tige dealer as well.

                That looks like a great boat. If I were in the 20K market, I would be all over that. It can become a great surfing machine too. All of that is assuming you do like the other guys have said and make sure it is in good running condition. I love me some red.

                  Well I think I'm going to pass on this one. Found out the boat was stolen from Lake Lanier 5 years ago and taken to a private lake in Florida where is was found last year. Owner bought the boat as a project and ended up buying something else. Gel coat was cracked in a few places and showed signs on repair in others.

                      Yep, its getting to be Winter time and if after checking it out, who cares if it "was" as long as it is "NOT" stolen.

                      You can always clean it up during the off season (if it runs good) and sell it after a year

                          Now of course I did forget the "Zipper Effect" Listening to Mike, a year later he will have 4 or 5 reversibles, 3,000 lbs of ballast (or more?), A wayyyy sick audio system with some big ol WS towers and of course a whole bunch of RGB LEDs!!! It is a sickness!!!

                            Factor into your offer how much it will cost to clean and repair the interior. This can be expensive but winter is a good time to get it redone. I would recommend not only replacing damaged skin but also replace the cushions on all surfaces that are sat on. To get a plush interior Tige used too soft cushion which caused vinyl to stretch and test the seams.. I would go to a marine upholstery business to have get a repair and cleaning quote.
