Chrome chipping off the board racks!!!

Last night when I was putting the boat away I put the tower down and began to clean off all smashed bugs on the tower and board racks. I noticed that the bugs were chipping off the chrome on the board racks. The boat is only 8 months old, I have only taken the boat out 6 times and the board racks look like someone took a shotgun to them. Has anyone ells had this problem and will tige replace the racks??

I will post a pic as soon as I can....

I will let you know in 2 weeks. Last week I didn't get a chance to do my annual super clean and wax the boat but I did notice from my last trip back from Vegas that my tower, racks and speakers are all covered with those squished bugs. Hopefully the chrome stays on when I clean them.
Looks like I need a taller cleaning crew.

I would contact your dealer with the issue and see what they can do.

    Let us know.
    Let it be!!!

I had the same problem with board racks and they were replaced under warranty. That is what happens when people get things "chromed" in china they just plate it they dont actuallly chrome it.

        Gardyloo03,
what do you mean they just plate it. That is a common process to apply chrome. Chrome is platted on to a surface by using an electolyte deposition of chromium usually over an underlying nickel plate. There is another way and that is thermal.... What do you mean by "they do not actually chrome it"? Bad plating can be a result of poor quality control and process.

I've seen people put plastic wrap on their towers and speakers.......to make the bug problem go away. Just peel it off......and you're clean

That clear plastic wrapping tape ought to do the job...you just don't want to leave it out in the heat.

As for the board racks, that shouldn't happen.

That is what i was told when mine started happening is that the facility in china was not actually chroming the racks like they were supposed to be doing. Wake designs said it was just a few shipments and that the problem had been resolved though.

Just for the good of the order...this is why we ordered billet racks etc... No chrome to go bad in the marine environment or from bugs smashing into it as has happened to our friend G-Money... Took a little cleaner wax last night to our racks and the bugs went away and the shine was good as new. It's not the answer for everybody, but after seeing your racks, I'm glad we got the billet models... Sorry you are having problems with the chrome...

                          wrangler,
what is your billet material? You said no chrome to go bad....Are you saying that the forks on your wakeboard racks are not chromed? Whose the maker of your racks?

Lets all think about all the bugs we hit every day, month, year etc. with our chrome bumpers (for those that have chrome bumpers). They look nothing like this, at least my never did. You just take some soap, water and wash them off. The bumper is not ruined. If this is chrome plating its a real lousy job . I concur with Gardyloo03 to get them replaced under warranty before it runs out.

I have chromed monster racks, and they do NOT look like that. I would say get them warrantied.
