I was about to ask - is it a necessary upgrade for the Z3? We will be doing a bit of everything - Surfing, Wakeboarding, Tubing, etc...what are your thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.

It is only necessary if you upgrade ballast to something like we sell, or others, around 12-1400 lbs per side. It was very necessary on the 24Ve, lots of cavitation weighted, RZ2 it wasn't needed, and seemed somewhere in between with the Z3.

The Z3 has the most push of all those boats and is one of its main benefits. It is heavier at the back of the boat, and maybe that makes it harder to get that weight out, but I really have no idea. The 1235 is a great add-on for surfing if you experience any cavitation. You won't notice any downside unless you enjoy running around the lake at 40MPH. You will lose 1-5 mph in my experience. If you have a ~340HP motor, you will probably only lose 1-2 mph, if you have the 409 or comparable motor, more like 5. Others may have different experiences.

I agree with Ragboy, After we sacked our z3 out with the 409 I had to upgrade to the 1235 or I couldn't get the boat to go over 10mph when full.

In our RZ2 with 409 and 1k custom sacks, we got cavitation and jerkiness when surf loaded. Acme 1235 took away most if not all of issues.

Forgive my ignorance here but cavitation is a new term to me, but it may explain what felt like "slipping" last season. we don't have custom sacs yet, but have 600 in the rear surf side and 400 up front. It indeed felt like the prop was catching air underneath every now and then, even in calm waters. Very subtle, but had me worried. Is this what you guys are referring to as cavitation?

Do you notice that it happens when weighted? Check with Squid on which prop he uses, but that slipping is most likely cavitation, different prop should nip that in the bud. ;-)

^^ Yes, I think it only happened when weighted. HEY SQUID! what prop are you using?!

Interesting I haven't heard about this before, glad it's likely a prop issue.

A few handy prop terms, including cavitation here.

This is the best explanation of cavitation I have found.

Don't mean to hi-jack and/or change the thread issue (not like that's never been done before) BUT....we too notice cavitation when weighted (06 20V with ~900lbs per side) BUT our odd thing is only when we surf on our local river going UP stream...not down stream using the 529 prop. It hasn't been enough of an issue though to dig into. I think it has something to do with the boat pushing extra against the current however small (usually only 1-2 MPH but figure that's a 2-4 MPH swing between going up and down river which we adjust for.)
