New/Modified Swim Step for old RZ4?

The setup that we are running is an ’08 RZ4 with two 1,100 lb. sacks in the rear and two 400lb sacks up front and a lot of kids at the back of the boat, a 1235 prop, an FAE and we have the 340 hp 5.7L Marine Power engine.

We have the old style big swim deck that gets quite buried when weighted down. I want to replace the two piece swim deck rubber pad with a new one-piece rubber pad, I am tired of the black mess mine makes. To fit one large single pad, I had just planned on glassing in the two factory pad recesses and having a custom SeaDek pad made up. Then I figured that while I have the glass out, I might as well clip the rear corners of the swim step for when we are surfing.

After seeing some of the new boats, it looks like Tige has a different style, smaller swim step.
    1. Are the new swim steps smaller? – not as wide
    2. Will they fit my old ’08?
    3. Would I need to mod/relocate the brackets?
    4. Can I order them from the dealer? I haven’t called my local dealer yet
    5. Should I be looking at some other boat manufacture’s swim step or some aftermarket swim step?
    6. Am I just wasting my time?

You can do any of the suggestions. The cheapest, easiest and probably least visually appealing will be cutting your existing platform. You can order a new platform from your local dealer but the brackets may need some modifications to fit, and if you want to use your existing brackets you can have one made from customswimplatforms.com, figure about 1,600 shipped from custom swim platforms.

      Ewok, thanks for the reply.

I can mod the stock platform easily enough and make it look stock, pretty basic Fiberglass work. Back when I was in college during the stone age, I used to redo my low profile jet boats and v-drives by opening up the helm support, glassing in new stringers and glassing out the cast in bottom hook. But back then I had a LOT more time than money and we have since invented electricity, the internet and somehow I woke up recently with a wife and raising three boys???.

Anyone have any idea how much the factory platform is and what needs to be done to fit an old RZ4?

Cant help you with your platform, but if you ever need additional ballast sacs or an ACME prop, i know a dude that gives a pretty good discount to Tige owners. Hell, he can even offer some advice now and again on stuff like stereo stuff

a friend of mine has an 07 rz2 and he cut the corners off the platform and radius the edges and it worked great, he later decided to buy the new style and it bolted right on. just a thought

I know the guy he's talking about, done business with him myself (again in the last few days, in fact!), and agree that everything said here is true!

I think I know that guy also, helped me out on designing/spec'ing two boat stereo/electrical systems - And I love BOTH of the systems, wouldn't sell me the last one (a full blown WS system with tacky white trash RGBs!) because I wasn't in his area (wish I was!)

I didn't know about the props, I would've bought my last one from him - will definitely get my next one from him, now which one to get....hmmmm.....

There should be a bunch of smaller platforms floating around now that the VX has come out and people have retrofitted it to prior model year.
