ok I ordered it with the base stereo package which works out well, as I can use my 2 syn 4's to power everything. I just need to build a sub box for under the helm. Whats the best way to wp the box? bedliner? or use a resin of some kind?

Most guys build boxes out of MDF, but you can also use plywood. Whatever you use, waterproof the outside of it with some form of water proof lacquer or even fiberglass resin. I suppose bed liner would work. So long as it is water proof. Then wrap it in whatever you want - vinyl, carpet etc. It doesn't really matter. The best boxes are the ones which are very strong, (internal supports?) and air tight. Obviously make it the proper size too

yes, I would use mdf, but once mdf gets wet it turns to saw dust. I just wondered what guys used to protect it.

That's why I suggest 3/4" plywood. It is a bit more resilient. You could also get it up off the floor, even just half an inch, to make sure any water that does get under it can dry.

Fiberglass resin is water tight too.... just put some of that on the bottom. I wouldn't be as worried on the sides.

I'm curious to hear what other recommendations are out there as I'm new to boxes in boats. My experience is all with cars. I used to lacquer the insides of all my boxes anyways, just because it makes them completely air-tight. Sound output is noticeable.

I use .75 birch ply and coat inside and out with a 2-part marine epoxy resin. I will carpet or bedliner it for aesthetics if part of the box is going to be seen. And the box needs to be elevated off the floor, regardless of what its made of or coated with.

If you need some of the gray marine carpet that matches the Tige carpet, let me know, I try to keep some on hand.

DO NOT USE MDF AND RESIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did this because everyone says the fiberglass resin is waterproof and you will have no problems etc.. BS I COATED my box with resin. MULTIPLE coats and it still got wet and and expanded and turned to chit. So just do it right the first time with .75" birch ply or similar. The good news is I now have a good reason to have a new custom box built at the beginning of next season.
