Cracked or leaking exhaust solution

So I know that I'm not the only one who has had this problem of a cracked and leaking fiberglass muffler. After repairing it myself a few times but it always happening again I took a different route. I talked to Larry at Fresh Air Exhaust and had him make me up some stainless straight pipes to replace the mufflers. I was concerned that it might not be as quiet but Larry thought that it would actually be quieter than it was with the mufflers. The reason is that the mufflers themselves resonate sound inside themselves which makes the in boat noise louder. He was right, after a fews days of testing my boat is quieter than it was with the mufflers and no noticeable performance difference. And best of all they wont crack and leak again. Mine where also way cheaper than if you had to replace a fiberglass muffler and much quicker to get. So if you guys are having the same problem give Larry a call and have him make you a pair. Fyi my motor is the Merc. 350 MPI and it had ultra mufflers on it.

Some of the Australian boats I have owned had the exhaust system made from stainless pipe with a "balance" pipe joining the two exhausts. This also reduced exhaust noise. You can also be able to buy cast inline mufflers.

Yeah it ended up working out really well. With these new straight pipes and my existing FAE it is so quiet seems all you hear is the sound of the water making a sweet wave to surf.
