    mysterious bent prop

So I'm in the process of a possible trade in for a new Z1(earlier post new 2014 Z1). So last night I pulled the boat out from my slip to clean it up and 3 of the ears on my prop were bent back at the tips. There was also about a 1 inch mark on the hull(gel coat is gone) were the prop ears would be close to. There is about a 1/2 inch clearance from the one good ear to the hull.I just got this prop about a month ago after hitting some rocks in Lake Michigan with the old prop. There was no damage to the shaft or the strut after the rock hit(and no mark on the hull).I know I didn't hit anything with this new prop. There are no nicks or scrapes at all, just smoothly bent over. I didn't get any pics yet.
I guess my question is what the hell could have happened, and has anyone else had a similar experience.

    thanks

Is this an Acme prop? It takes very, very little to bend the prop if it is made of NiBrAl. Folding over the tips can be done by essentially blowing too hard on them. 1 rotation does the damage!

yep, it's an Acme. It's funny a had my other one for a year and 1/2 and not a scratch on it. And with this one(on same lake, very deep) it was shot in 1 month, without me even feeling a hit.

My guess: You ran over a stick/piece of wood/something that the prop then smushed between its blade edges and the hull. Three of the blades spun across it while it was trapped against the hull before it finally got spit out. That would be enough to roll the blade tips and ding the hull without causing major damage, and you might not even hear/feel it. I see pieces of wood/dock/tree branches like this occasionally and I always worry what would happen if one went under the hull... I think I know now!

hey let me tell you, cheaper to bend a prop then bend a shaft or worse yet throw a tooth in the transmission, but just hitting a branch seems far fetched, as my trailer is wrong for my boat and i hit the prop guard and very little damage on my prop... so NiBrAl is still pretty solid guys........
