Planes landing on local lake

I was at Castaic Lake yesterday and a fire started just on the other side of the mountains. These planes and helicopters were at the lake in 5 min and landed 3 times to pick up water. It was pretty amazing to see something like this happen so close to the boat.

They must have the RAM fill ballast system! Is this where the gate idea came from?

I've been at the local lake at home a few times when the copters have come in to fill the big waterbags they haul. filled one day 1000ft away or so. was cool to see the skill involved in dropping, filling and then dumping on a fire that was burning right over the hill.

Did they have the sheriff out there keeping their landing area clear?
Did they get the fire out? Or at least under control?

We saw a fire break out in the hills behind us this Sunday while on the water. Its now burnt 4000 acres ;(.

Yeah the sheriffs were out clearing the main channel but of course there were still a few boats out there that just didn't quite get it. You would think if you saw smoke coming from the mountains behind you and planes trying to land right where you are you would move out of the way. You can buy a boat but you cant buy common sense

One of the houses on our lake has a float plane parked right on their dock. They take off and land at least once almost every day. Before they lived here we'd get at least 1-3 landings and takeoffs per summer, but now it's a daily event. Still cool every time it happens!
