Looking at trading up to a 2008 RZ4 need feedback

Hey gang,

I currently have a 2001 Mastercraft X10. I have had it about 4 years and got it as a starter boat...there were no used Tige's in my general area when I was in the market!

I now am up to 6 children, only had 4 when we bought the boat and it is apparent that we will have at least another 15 years of boating before the youngest get to the age they are to "busy" to go to the lake!

I need a bigger boat and have always liked the RZ series!

I have found a 2008 RZ4 with 120 hours and in "near showroom shape" per the sales guy on the phone. It is in Dallas and I am in Houston so all I have to go on is pics and his word.

I have talked with him and this boat was a trade in. They have inspected and run the boat and it runs great with no issues. Texas Mastercraft seems to have a really good service team so i am pretty comfortable that they did a through inspection. He said the only thing that is abnormal is that it came without the carpet in the main cabin area.

He has offered me $21k for my boat and said it would be $30,800 out the door after tax, title and trade. For a total of $49,500 + TT&L = $51,800

This seems like it is a little high. What do you guys think? This is the same dealer I bought my current boat from 4 years ago and that deal went well. I think they are in this boat at a low price since it didn't have carpet and was not a MC. They have ordered the carpet and will install it before I purchase if I decide to buy.

Also what should I look for in this boat? It has the MP 360HP 5.7L Engine and stock ballast, two sets of pro 80s or 60s can't really tell from the pics. What questions should I ask?

Pro 80's will have more Bass and Pro 60's will have more mid range.The boat probably sold new in the 66k to 72k range depending on how it was equipped.The 2014's are already here so it's 6 years old already.We had a couple at our lake that just bought a 2006 24ve with tower and tower speakers,in boat speakers,table,center bow cushion,under water transom light and dual batteries with 105 hours for 35,000. It has the MP 340 H.P. MOTOR. Were in VA and markets vary.The closer it gets to winter the better the deal may get.Good luck!

In perspective I sold my 07 20v with over 750 hours with no ballast but an awesome stereo for around 30k. In my opinion an 08 rz4 with low hours would definitely be worth 20k or so more. Good luck!

I would say it is a fair deal. Not an outstanding deal but a fair one. They have it listed on onlyinboards for 53.9k and then on their site for 51.9k. So they are giving you a couple grand off those prices. See if they will go down to 50k OTD.

Pretty solid boats! They do have a swim platform issue where it puts a funny line in the surf wave. They redesigned it in '09.

Have you priced out a 2014 RZ4? Someone on here just sold their '08 RZ2 in a few hours for pretty close to the price they are asking for this RZ4.

Yeah new RZ4 is $90k! Twice as much. That will just not fit in my toy budget!

I will go back and see if I can shave a little more off the price.

Unless my math is incorrect an 08 is 6 yrs old with the 14s coming out. I was told there would be no math!!!!

This boat is half the price of new for only 120 hours of use and 6 years. Seems like a nice place to step in on the depreciation curve...

I think you are in the right ballpark for sure on price. Like I said 50k OTD and I would sign the papers.

I have '08 RZ2 w/ Samson Switchblade tower. I have discussed changing out tower w/ Harvey @ tige. I can not remember the cost quoted, but the few reasons I decided to stay with what is installed:
1. New Alpha's are a bit lower profile, so they do not have as much head clearance.
2. Cost...
3. holes in the boat where the existing tower is not connected.

I LOVE MY '08 RZ2....

Definitely enough power to pull whatever and whomever. GREAT SURF WAKE. Great Family Boat, with little ones friends along all of the time....

This boat has the Tige tower on it. Similar looking as the Samson Razor but it looks like the vertical part is solid and has the attachment points at the top and bottom and has fixed racks. I have always really liked the samson razor and how simple it is to put up and down and the fact that it comes with swivel racks. Not sure how much trouble the tige tower is going to be to lower and raise. I also don't like how small the Bimini is in this tower. I will have to figure out what I am going to do with that! Momma has to have her shade!!!!

Do you have a pic of your 08 RZ2 ? Would love to see the samson tower on that boat.
