How do you get by so cheap, no kids maybe (I have 2)? I pay $400 a month for health and dental insurance alone. It's a pretty good group policy with really low deductables, but way to high IMO. We don't smoke, don't drink excessively, have good teeth, etc, etc. I checked into a "blue saver" type plan as well, but to get what I wanted it was the same price. My employer covers 60% of my policy premiums......so for my family in a group policy, my real premium is close to $850/month. I still have a $2000 total deductable, and $5000 total out of pocket. I think my state is the biggest problem. We do have great heart hospitals though! Now where did I leave my fried bagel?

I WISH I could get USAA.....I never did military time, and neither did my pop. I think your rates are so low b/c USAA for the most part doen't have to cover idiots, and has a much lower fraud rate. They are the only insurer in LA that did not raise homeowner's to exhorbent rates this year, and as far as I know, the only ones who paid out obviously deserved dividends. My AllState policy went up 50%. $1050/yr to $1600/year. I'm just glad our houses are cheap. I couldn't imagine trying to insure a $500k home. My bro-in-law got a dividend payment that covered his cost in premium increase.

Sparky, If the injury happens on the water, your boats MEDPAY will cover. If the boat is hooked to the truck, the auto MEDPAY will pay. Ether way, your major med should cover also, and in some states, you can file on your major med and then turn the bulls into your MEDPAY and thay will pay YOU directly

The best advise I can give is to find a good Agent that reps a good company and take all your business to them. When something happens, you make 1 phone call to your agent, they can look at all your policys and get the ball rolling in the right direction.

That is true, but even my brother cannot compete with the rates on my truck because I use it for business and need to carry some special coverage on it.

smoking and drinking should not effect your rates that I'm aware of, but I have 2 kids all my health, vision, dental is $237 w/ United Healthcare. Have no idea what my deductiables are, never cared to be honest. $15 everytime we go to the doc, and most of our prescriptions were in the pennies at costco. Car insurance is 587 every 6 months for both cars. Don't have my boat policy handy but if it's more than 30 bucks a month I'd be shocked. I pay my boat premium all in one shot.
Starting this Jan 1 we switched all our health to an HSA, we carry catastrophic ins, but my company dumped 5k in our account, we deposit 350 or 500 a month (cant remember) and get a guaranteed 6% return. This can carry over until I retire and I can pull the money out tax free( I think??). Sound like a deal to me, since I rarely use my Ins Policy. Something to think about or ask your employer. Wish I could remember more details but this is how the conversation goes in my house
Wife: "Honey, this insurance blah blah......blah....blah...."
Me: "Sounds great babe" *cracking a beer*

be it that I am on the claims side of things.
Are all your quotes for the same coverages?
Can you set agreed values on your policy for the boat?
PM me if you want to talk more

I called each agent, or filled out online questionaire, with my current policy in hand. I matched it as close as possible to my existing policy. Some things are a little different with different carriers, like deductible amounts. If there was a higher deductible amount I would choose it to make it as fair as possible.

I'm just trying to see if I can improve on my current policy. So far, not yet.

Here in NC, we give an auto/home discount and an additional if you add a boat + another if you take a Boater safety class. not sure about UT but worth asking.

The value of my boat keeps going down, but the premium does not. Time to start shopping around.
I've been with WestMar for the entire 13 years. So far Progressive beets them by $100. I'll see who else is dealing these days?

Mike - from your list of companies above, just thought I'd mention that USAA does not underwrite their own boat policies anymore, they just have Progressive handle everything.

Also, I suggest checking with BOAT US, too.
