If there is a huge differance in quotes between companys, I would bet it's in the limits. Some agents want #'s so they write everything at the min coverage, some want to collect fat premiums so they will quote everything at the highest limits. Have everyone fax you a copy of the quote and compare to other quotes or currant policy.

Some Co's write "ageed value" and some write "depreciated value" some offer both, you just need to ask which they are quoting.

You may also have the option to increase the salvage/tow limits. The standard amount might not be enough to cover the cost if the boat were to sink/roll over.

How many of you carry a PUP. Inexpensive for the extra coverage.

Wingnut, glad you're happy with the "good hands" people Wife and I are Allstate agents.

Earlier in this thread USAA was mentioned as being low cost wise for boats. I too have USAA for my home and auto's but when it came to the boat they were almost $200 higher than STATE FARM. State Farm has crushed all that I have tried. I will say that I have not tried Progressive. I will be doing that on my new boat.

The only thing I can figure about State Farm being higher here is because we live right by the lake so there are probably alot of claims through this particular agent or area.

I assume I have all the bells and whistles, my brother is an agent, but for the sake of having true facts I will call him on Tuesday and get all the info on my policy and relay that info to the thread....right now all I can go on is what Bank of America online tells me what I paid last....I'll let you know next week...oh it's a 2005 22v

We use USAA- had the boat about 2 months when my wife hit a sandbar in the Delta, did a fair amount of damage- USAA rep came out to dealer where i took my bot and cut a check on the spot for $8500.00 to fix everything- and the rep filed the claim as a "not-at-fault" incident so our premium never went up!!! We have the house, cars, and boat through USAA- plus a credit card- USAA owns me!!!

Was it a USAA rep or a progressive rep? The reason I ask is because Progressive underwrites USAA policies for boats. I really didn't want progressive insurance but got stuck with it until I can find something better. I hate that they stick you with progressive.

I'll have to ask my wife but I'm pretty sure it was a USAA rep, since she hit the sandbar I made her do all the footwork to get it fixed LOL

I am with you Dom. I have used progressive on our boats and motorhomes for the last 4 years. We insure the home and vehicles thru State Farm and he said he can't compete with Progressive in AZ for boats and RV's.

yup, i'm the same way. Home and cars are state farm, and boat is progressive. However I may be changing my cars and house, since state farm almost doubled my z06 insurance when I moved to cali, since I have to declare it as my primary driver, even though it's my weekend driver. Something about still being single and not married I can't choose what is what when I have an expensive car.

I use BoatUS for about $400/yr.

I can't bring myself to use Progressive because I loathe the ACLU & Peter B. Lewis

Dom, why don't you look into Hagerty classic/collector car insurance for your Vette. It can be written throught your local Allstate Agent. I'ts for cars like yours that are "toys" not daily drivers.

No way I'm saving customers big $ to put a classic on a hagerty v's a standard auto policy because there is less risk of a wreck. Liability alone is less than $100.00/6months and comp/col is about $6 per $1k of value.
