    Insurance

With everyone taking delivery of their new boats, I thought this subject might be of interest.

I was just wondering who everyone uses for their boat insurance? I would think most go through their existing policy provider, lumped together with their house and cars.

I requested a price quote from AAA @ the boat show. They had this cool feature of a 4 or 6 month lay-up policy. I thought what the heck? It was close to two hundred dollars a year more, for the same coverage, than my current policy.

I ordered my insurance from the recommendation of my dealer (Tige' Watersports of Corona) at the time of purchase. I have been with them ever since. I have recommended them to a few friends and they couldn't beat the deal with their current carriers either.

The company name is Western Marine Insurance Services. I have no connection, just a satisfied customer of nine years.

For all veteran's out there, USAA is half as much as WestMar. WestMar is who I have now. ... Didn't know about USAA till recently.

I have USAA for my house and car, and I called them on the boat. They took all my info and ultimately signed me up for a policy written by Progressive ("Drive Insurance"). I now make payments to Progressive, and they will handle any claims, but USAA will intervene if necessary. USAA says Progressive has "special reps" to deal with USAA customers. Hopefully, I'll never need it.

USAA is the only way to go if you can get it. House, Car, Boat. Even my mortgage is through those guys.

We're State Farm all the way. 2 boats, 2 jet skis, 3 cars, 2 houses, 1 major liability and mucho life insurance. My best friend (and neighbor at the lake) is the agent so claims always go smoothly. Recently had an unfortunate incident with a submerged log (bent the shaft, prop and rudder) and he was actually on the boat. Was back on the water within a week w/ all claims paid for and a shiny new Acme 3-blade prop. BTW, those new 3 blade prop designs are worth checking out.

Progressive had the best rates I could find and now with several years of no claims my deductible is $0. They lowered it each year without a claim at no cost.
