Boat Cutting Out

Does anyone ever have thier engine die when going from a low RPM forward throttle to neutral? This happens on every now again with my Tige (Merc 350 MPI) and I'm wondering if it's a big deal or not.

Does it have fresh fuel? How about the fuel filter / water separator?

Sounds like (in order of most to least likely):

1. Bad distributor cap
2. Fouled spark plugs
3. Marginal ignition wires

What RPM does it normally idle at? When I first brought my boat up to Nevada from the bay area I had to adjust the idle up just a tick to compensate for the altitude. It did die on me once last weekend. I pretty much figured it was a little left over fuel from last year as it was my first day out and I (unfortunately) had an extended off season. It happed first thing and once I got some fresh fuel through the system it purred like a kitten, I mean like a Tige. Rrrrrreearrr!

Yes, that was pretty bad Nickypoo. I will chalk this up as left over gas from a long off-season and keep my eyes on the other things.

When does everyone replace impellers? I'm on my third season with about 180 total hours. Should I replace?

You're boating on borrowed time. Every 2 years, whether it needs it or not. Otherwise during the 3rd year, you'll find yourself without a boat at the most inopportune time.

Mine lasted two years. It completely died. Every fin had at least some portion missing. When I took it in for yearly service, I thought that was one thing they changed. NOT! ... So, now I just do it all myself. I hate fine print.
