My 6 year old going ropeless!

    Hey All,

I had some serious issues w my 09 Z1 that have been resolved by purchasing a 2013 and now my youngest (just turned 6 less than a month ago) is going ropeless. So proud of him and loving the wake (after the Convex bracket swap).

I really want to say thanks to the fine folks here at TO for all of the help, guidance and sympathy through the he!! that was caused by the last boat. Also, my local dealership (Heinens Motorsports) here in Minneapolis has been great. It was all worth it tonight.

That's awesome. He's definitely the youngest surfer I've seen. I see he's on a Hyperlite Broadcast,we let all the lighter newbies learn on that board. I'm still amazed he got up,as most lighter riders struggle with that because of the buoyancy of the board.
I do all my own stunt work. hey ya'll watch dis.

It was a little bit of a process getting him comfortable manipulating the board in the water. Our steps were (over lots of hours).

            1) Him bodysurfing on the board
            2) Him and I surfing on the same board
            3) Him and I in the water at the same time, I would help him w his feet placement and board alignment. Then pull him up solo.
            4) Big brother (9 years old) and him in the water, big bro would help w feet placement and board alignment. Then pull him up solo.
            5) On his own in the water, going solo and not worrying about getting rid of the rope (this took the most patience as he was learning to hold the rope and keep the board from flipping)
            6) He really wanted to touch the wave so once he did that and pointed the front of the board at the boat, it was easy for him to throw the rope bc he is so light.

Probably helped that big bro was doing it already too

Being light is the trick. My 10 year old brother wights about 80 and rides my Liquidforce Doum and can ride the wave all the way out to the end and come back. 6 year old ropeless is awesome!!!

Glad to see your wave is looking great behind that new Z1. I am gonna try your ballast set up this weekend. What TAPS and speed are you running.

It's GREAT to see and hear about the kids out. I believe that surfing is much more of a family friendly than alot of the other watersports, great for young and old.

All you guys saying that lighter is better sounds like a message to hit the gym and get rid of some of my weight, maybe then I could go PRO (ok, probably need to work on my technique)

Keep the pics of the kids riding...absolutly love it!

We are running speed about 10.5 and Taps between 3 and 6. For him I typically pulled him slower and didnt worry about the wave, but last night that changed!

He was on cloud 9 when he got back in the boat as we had a boat full of neighbors w us. It was cool to see.

Awesome! I ride on the same board with my 2yo and 4yo. My 4yo wants her own kids board when she turns 5, thats her magic number right now where she thinks she can do anything when she turns 5. I don't think she'll be ropeless next summer but we'll see. She can already get on/off the chairlift at ski resorts and can handle blues all day long.

That is fantastic! I am about to order a Z1 or RZ2 so hopefully my six year old will be just a year behind yours.

Do it! I had a lot of issues w a used Z1 but have been very pleased w the 2013. We have about 40 hours on it (from July 6th to current) and that doesnt include the countless hours of my boys jumping off the side then back in. It has been the best purchase in a long time.

Man, that wake looks juicy, just like it should with the VX. Of course we will send him a free t-shirt. Just email me the info. And that goes for any little guy or girl that gets up the first time wireless.
