Are you Ready for Boise? Ready for the Rematch?

I did something I have never done before, for fun. I took the youtube feed of the live contest at the Northwest Wakesurf Open and then synced it up with HD video. I wanted to see the HD video of Chris Wolter's and James Walkers run as they happened with the audio commentary and all. I also replaced the feed instant replay with a replay and slow mo of every single trick while still keeping in sync. Its bit long, but it def gives you the "I was there" feeling.

I believe, but could be corrected, that this was the first surf style big spin in comp. Check it out:

That was WAY too much fun and both guys threw down amazing runs, I am not a judge, but if James would have landed his big spin, I think he would have taken it, and he was SO close. That shuv in and shuv out he did was very cool.

Rematch is coming this weekend at the Endless Wave Tour Boise Surf This! Bash, if you are anywhere near, come check it out. Along with James and Chris, Chase Hazen, Chris Kinsey Jr, Jimmi Sparling and Aaron Witherell are all also scheduled run in Open Men Surf, its going to be fun.

We are going to try to record the feed and then upload at the end of the day, since the competition is in a remote area and can't be broadcast live. It should work fine.

Here is the roster updated live from the Boise event:

    See you there!

Cool video! They judge on the number of tricks, the variety of the tricks, the technical difficulty, how well they performed the trick, air, style, grabs, etc. A big spin holds a lot of weight when no other rider was able to perform that trick. It "pays" to do a trick that other's can't do/didn't try when it's a difficult one. Watch the video again and write down the tricks as the announcers are calling it and see how many tricks each rider performed and how many times they did each one.

This is basically the same rules used:

I am not a judge, but one of the things I noticed was that CW def was on fire, the intensity and amplitude was pretty amazing. They were both great runs, and they are both great riders, it was close. I am sure if James landed that big spin, which he ALMOST did, he would have taken it.

Judges also don't get the benefit of those nice slo mo replay's that Ragboy creates either! When you're in the boat trying to write down every single trick as it's happening and be subjective, it is WAY different than watching that video. The rider's intensity and succession of tricks definitely adds to the moment and to the score.

Very good point timmy, sounds like you enjoyed your stint as a judge. Its def not easy, especially with 2 runs like that back to back.

It was fun, exciting and nerve racking all at the same time! When you get 2 runs like that back-to-back, you have to go through the trick list you wrote down and then your memory to make sure you are scoring it fairly and then you have the next rider ready to roll all at the same time. Both prize money and pride are at stake and you don't want to screw it up and have people questioning your ratings! The skim board class is one of the hardest to judge. They are doing tricks so fast that if you blink at the wrong time, you might miss a grab or a shuv or something! And you definitely don't want to blink when Lovett is going or you will most likely miss a Lovett roll! HAHAHA!

I see makes sense I suppose. But from watching that james should of won.. everything he did looked so clean and well performed and he did alot more stuff than the other kid did.. Even know that kid landed the spin he didnt do half of the stuff james did

That was a tough wake, Chris W definately earned that one. James was not happy with his riding that day and he's vowed the next match will NOT be a close call. Throw in Chase and Chris K and it should be a great competition. James is trying to get to the final EWT stop in Texas, it's hard for him to get the time off work, but that one should prove interesting also.

LOL, that is too cool, way to point to the fence, I love it. I can't wait to see it. I tested today to make sure that I will be able to record the feed as we do our event and ship to shore, and then upload to youtube each evening from the hotel. Boise is not in a good spot with signal, but this should work great. It will be like the tonight show, "Recorded Live".

                      Too much fun.
