    21i or 20V

I'm considering purchasing either a new 2004 21i or a demo 2003 20V with 30 hrs. I've ridden in the 21i but never stepped foot or even seen in person a 20V. I do prefer the V-drive boat but was wondering others opinion on the ride, wake, and overall comfort of the 20V. We'd usually have two-three adults and up to four small children ( ages 6 - 10 ). This will be our first wakeboard boat.

    21i - $40K+ ( no cruise )
    20V - $34 ( with cruise )

On a down note, the demo is at another dealer 7 hours away and my local dealer is being wishy-washy about servicing anything new, used or otherwise that wasn't purchased through their dealership. I do have a local Merc dealer willing to service the motor, but will I have many problems beside mechanical with a Tige?

poohpotta, if the dealer near you is a tige dealer I think they have to service your boat if it is needed. The warranty is thru tige not thru the dealer so I don't think they have a choice. Will the delear with the demo boat give you the full warranty as if the boat were new? IMO I would go with the 20V, more room.

Sweet wake! I was in a ProStar 205 today, I'm thinking it was about the same size as the 20V and seemed real roomy. I talked to Andrew briefly about it and he said that Tige would 'strongly recommend' that they service the boat. However, it would still be an akward situation.

The dealer should understand if you go with the 20V. I know they will not get a sale, but if thats what you want go with it. The only thing you could maybe do is see if your dealer will buy the boat off the other dealer and then they can get the sale. Just a thought.

Yeah, They actually were going to do that with another dealer on a 21i. It'd be nice to work something out so I could maintain a good relationship woth my local dealer.

Thanks for coming from wakeworld to here,
              Banks.
as for the wake on the 21i this is a pic of mine, i didn't know how much my engine would take cause i am new to inboards and wakeboard boats so my wake is bigger now and i have only had the boat since december. but this was with a fatsac in the back locker, 500lbs, and 100lbs in each of the front lockers. Now i am loading like 1000lbs but would have more but one of my fatsacs blew a major hole (yeah the boat got soaked at least it was in the back locker).
(i a used to a boat where if you put that much you couldn't have but maybe 3 passengers if you wanted to get the boat out of the water)

Banks, that is a nice looking wake behind a 21i! Have you tried to load up some ballast and wake surf behind the boat?

I would have to say that I would favor the 21I. I just purchased a 2004 22 I and felt that with the direct drive configuration it allowed me to have more room in the overall boat. The V-drive did give me more room in a single space, but I personally like the configuration on the 22 I. For me the major difference was the handling of the 22 I over the v-drive along with the spread out seating that my family favored over the V-drive config and as you can see from this site the wake behind both boats is more then adequate for both sking and wakeboarding.

                    22V !!

Guys -- you gotta go with the 20V over the 22I if you're into wakeboarding. It's so obvious if you think about it that with the weight of the engine in the middle of the boat (with the 22I) versus the weight of the engine all the way in the back of the boat (with the V-drive config) that the 20V is going to have a much bigger wake . . . And for room, the "V" gives you a huge wide open area with is all useable.

You won't trip over the engine box (like you will in the "I") and you won't have to get your buddies out of the way of the rope when you use the tow pylon on the 22I (the 20V has the tow pylon BEHIND the seating area) and that's a big plus! !

The 22V and the 20V will make any wakeboarder much happier in the long run, plus I've heard the re-sale value holds up better. The V's are the future, the I's are the past . . .

Any dealer worth buying from will service any product as if he sold it so he'll get your next sale -- and you can always remind him you'll be buying a new boat within 2 years.

EZ-DZ- like to see a rider from Naples (i lived there off/on for about 10 years) but i am going to have to disagree w/ you about the I's. i have a 22ir now (well for a few more days at least) and my new 24V jst showed up at the dealer yesterday. first - in the 22i and the new 21i, the boat is so wide that you never "trip" over the engine box. in fact, i actually like the seating arrangement of the I's better. as far as wake, the goal is not to put as much weight in the back as possible. the goal is to almost have an even wieghted boat, depending on the length of the boat, the goal is to be around 60/40. we went to the 24v because we have 2 boys that are very young (actually only the youngest was our concern). I have a 4yr old and a 1 yr old. the one year old is easier to keep track of in a V with the "play pen"arrangement. (he is a real monster and will get into everything!) I have a few friends with v's (tiges,mc's,bu's and CC) and our biggest issue is getting enough weight in the front w/o loosing seating or the walk way. jst my $.02

OK, I think I'm going to with the V, but instead of the 20V I'm looking at a new 22V. Going out on a demo on Saturday.

nice choice poohpotta. you'll love whatever you end up with! there is a pretty big difference in the roomyness department when you compare the 20v to the 22v.

Good choice, and I think that you will find only a very small price difference between the 20V and the 22V.
