Lake Oroville Camping/Boarding Suggestions in Nor Cal??

I am thinking of taking the kids to Lake Oroville in Northern California which is about two and a half hours north of me.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to Launch/Camp(tents)/Wakeboard/Surf??

Any areas to stay away from?

When we go, we camp/launch at Bidwell Marina. PM Ragboy, he basically lives on Oroville.......

Thanks for the tip! Our home lake is about 20 minutes away, but is not very good for boarding so we are trying the other lakes that are around us.

Last year we ended the season at Bullard's Bar which was AWESOME! Spent this father's day at Shasta which was very windy until my throttle shift release broke, put the broken boat on the trailer and stared at GLASS for two more days!!!! AHHH!!!!

Throttle is fixed, stereo is complete and I have five new reversibles installed and ready to fill bags (I HOPE!)

If anyone is at Oroville this weekend, look for a bunch of rookies trying to surf behind an old red RZ4!!!

what lake are you near? Bullards is a cool lake! We are 20 min from Rollins.... it's small but very cool! we'll be camping there starting wednesday.

I wish we were closer to Bullard's, Berryessa is our home lake, with only one decent cove (small). One set of tubers and the cove is useless for boarding - nothing like seeing some nice glass til you see a couple of eight year olds getting on a tube. Whenever we tube we head away from any glass, leaving it for skiers, boarders and surfers.

Last year when we hit Bullard's late in the season, I was blown away by the LONG runs of glass!!!! Loved it!!!

Englebright Lake is another good lake near Bullards Bar and then there is Camp Far West near Lincoln CA.

Oroville also has the floating camp site from what I remember. however, as someone already noted, PM ragboy.

We moved 600 miles to live where we live to enjoy lake Oroville and have been to all of those lakes and have vacationed on Berryessa. Oroville won't let you down, deep, huge, beautiful and very undertrafficked compared to all of those other lakes. Our favorite marina is Lake Oroville Marina near Paradise and our boat is usually in a slip there when not being towed to some event somewhere.

Floating campsites are great, there are great campgrounds like loafer creek to the south and then lime saddle by us. Floating campsites are tough to get without 6 mos advanced notice.

Anyway, email me and tell me about your family and when you are coming and maybe we will be in town at the same time. We can bring out a couple boards and give you a tow if we are available. When we are home we usually go out 2 days during the week around 3pm and close the lake down.

We use to ski only Lake Berryessa, we lived in Davis. Always put in a Markely Cove and skied the narrows. Weekends were rough out there. I'd always try to get out for a few hours after work as often as i could, or do a really early or late evening session if it had to be a weekend.

Just got back from Oroville and I will say that the lake is awesome and now my favorite considering the lake itself, coves, number of boats (seems there are more trailers and ramp activity than boats on the water) distance from home, amenities etc

The boat ran great. It was only the third or fourth time out on our new to us '08 RZ4

The new stereo with (4) Icon8s with (6) XS-650s sounds FREAKEN AWESOME!!

My brand new full on ballast system with five reversibles…well, didn’t perform so well. Took a little run to heat up the couplings on the FAE and after a while wanted to check the ballast system. Left rear pump, fine, right rear pump, fine…then POW! Through the sub, no stereo, no power to the underside of the dash (i.e. NO Ballast). All the ballast pumps are wired up to a 10mm bolt that is fed from the batteries at the back of the boat, then each has inline fuses that were all good. I found one magnetic breaker at the back of the boat that didn’t LOOK to be tripped, but I didn’t have a continuity tester on hand (ended up buying one in town)

But the boat still ran fine, just couldn’t ballast it up for big wakes or for surfing. And the real bummer was the WS’ 420SQ was powered from the same block!!!! So the head unit and amps still worked, but couldn’t get any sound through the EQ!!!!!

We still had fun, Everyone boarded and surfed but only the lightest kid could drop the rope because we just couldn’t tune the wake

Time for a little redesign on the ballast power supply. I want a separate marine grade BREAKER (not fuses) distribution panel for the ballast system with a main feed ran back to the batteries. Oh well! Problems to have!!!

Loved the lake, and will definitely return and this time hopefully with some tunes and ballast!!!

It really is beautiful, and underused. Always a place to hide from wind.

Do you have the green impellers in your reversibles? Save u a lot of headaches.

I am not sure what impellers are currently in the reversibles.

I do have two of the green impellers as backups.

Is there a reason to check to see if the current impellers are the green ones? I doubt they are the green ones.
