Stern light location and other observations.

2000 20ci Missouri Ozarks. Time to ask why? Went for a long night cruise Sat. night. Why does Tige mount the stern light just behind the windshield next to the dash on my boat and other Tige's also? I heard was because night skiing was legal in Texas and this kept the stern light out of the way. Is this true?
I love my Tige. Met a guy at the gas dock the other day running a 18' 1950's Chris Craft, stepped hull racing runabout. From the front and side and rear his hull looked very much like mine. Mine is fiberglass and more advanced design, but very much the same. I was really surprised at how much they were the same hull. My boat has a trim tab, his did also. My boat has a bigger prop and larger engine.. I won the race! M&M

Mr. whitlock: Yes, the pole plugs into the vertical part of the dash just behind the wind screen, next to the instrument cluster. At night I have to wear a ball cap so the stern light does not glare in my eyes. M&M

Im not exactly sure why they put it there. Around 01 I think is when they moved it back to the stern. Mines the same way yours is, course we are never out at night, but if I was my tower came with a new light so Id just use it. Im no help to your question though.

My 97 Supra SunSport had the light mounted just in front of the windshield. I am not sure about night skiing being legal but I would venture to guess that there were a few cases people skiing off the center pylon and forgetting to take the light down from the night before and ripping it off when it was mounted in the back. We also sometimes flip our lights on for that last set right at dusk when it is still just light enough to be boarding or skiing so maybe that is what they were thinking about.

I actually got pulled over once just after dark and had the following conversation with the water cops:

Cop: Why do you have your pole light in front of the windshield?
Me: Umm, because that is where it goes.
Cop: Did you add that to the boat?
Me: No, it came from the factory that way.
Cop: Umm, well ok I am going to let you go this time but the light really needs to be on the back of the boat.

He then proceeded to point at another boat that was passing by us and said “see your light needs to be in the back like that one.” The boat in question did have their pole light mounted in the back but none of their lights were even turned on as they blasted by us. Lol.
